Community Teamwork | Diversity Employer
Community Teamwork was established in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty and the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Today, Community Teamwork’s mission is much the same as it was in 1965. As Greater Lowell’s Community Action Agency, we mobilize resources for low-income people, providing opportunities for them to achieve stability, self-sufficiency and have an active voice and participation in the decisions that affect their lives.
In March of 2011, we moved our headquarters to the historic Bon Marche building located at 155 Merrimack Street in the heart of downtown Lowell. We also have nine program and service sites in Lowell and Lawrence and Wakefield and serve residents across 63 cities and towns in Middlesex and Essex Counties. Our relatively new headquarters serve as a central base to better offer clients, employees, partners and supporters an attractive, unified setting to deliver, manage and receive services as we continue building relationships and programs that make a difference to our community.
Today, we serve over 50,000 people, employ over 500 and partner with dozens of organizations including immigrant and refugee communities. Additionally, Community Teamwork’s subsidiary, Common Ground Corporation, partners with cities, towns and municipalities to create much-needed affordable housing, with over 200 units created to date. All of these deeply interwoven connections and partnerships make Community Teamwork and the community more resilient and responsive in helping people and the community as a whole reach their full potential.
Our Mission
Working together toward a stronger community
Community Teamwork is a catalyst for social change. We leverage our programs, our partnerships, and our collective voice to foster equity, compassion, and community engagement by creating housing, education, and economic opportunities.
Our vision is a community whose institutions, systems, and people support everyone’s opportunity to thrive.
A future where clients are aware of opportunities available and how to access them so they achieve their potential for economic independence and personal growth. Through teamwork we want the community to be a committed and knowledgeable partner which results in fewer people living in poverty. Community Teamwork wants to exceed client, funder and employee expectations. We want clients, staff and community to be inspired to lead personal and community change.
Our Values
In the spirit of community and teamwork, we strive to uphold the following values:
- Recognize strengths and treat our clients and fellow employees with respect and honesty in all Community Teamwork dealings.
- Deliver high quality integrated services that result in positive outcomes for clients and respond to changing community needs.
- Collaborate with external organizations to improve outcomes for clients and strengthen the community.
- Recognize our role as stewards of public and private funding.
- And uphold the values of Community Teamwork C.A.R.E.S.
- Compassionate, Accountable, Respectful, Empathetic, Services
