Description and Requirements

Lenovo /Motorola Mobility is seeking highly talented & motivated researchers with demonstrated experience in wireless research and standardization to join our world-class wireless research group. This is an onsite role based in Chicago, Illinois.

Basic Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Masters/PhD.) is required with major in wireless communication and or signal processing. Background and expertise in wireless network architecture will also be considered.
  • Solid understanding of wireless fundamentals including digital communication methods, signal processing, information theory, RF/EM wave propagation, channel modeling, channel coding, digital and hybrid MIMO architectures. Knowledge of artificial intelligence/machine learning and data-driven methods for wireless networks is a plus. Understanding of network architecture and application of AI in network architecture is also a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP/IEEE research and standardization activities with experience in Layer1 and higher layers for LTE, LTE-A, 5G NR is a plus.
  • Proven track record of strong analytical skills and excellent grasp on several areas including, but not limited to, massive MIMO, mmWave communication, beamforming concepts, codebook design, signaling design, network architecture and Layer 2 protocols.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in IPR activities - patenting activity is a big plus
  • Strong programming experience - link level and/or system level simulator development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required

What will you be doing:

  • Identify complex problems and design advanced, yet practical solutions for massive MIMO systems in mmWave, non-terrestrial communications among other areas
  • Improve signaling and related procedures in PHY/MAC for highly efficient 5G systems
  • Contribute to 3GPP in various forms (such as contributions, email-discussions, etc.), engage in discussions and defend our proposals with solid technical reasoning
  • Implement novel solutions in the state-of-art link/system level simulator
  • Identify long-term research topics and contribute to proposals for collaborative projects with external partners
