SFCS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Louisville, Kentucky office. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and planners in a multidisciplinary environment while designing innovative mechanical systems for a variety of impactful projects.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced, mid-level, mechanical engineering professional who enjoys developing practical, energy-efficient building systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering thoughtful, innovative design solutions from concept through construction. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound technical judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, healthcare, senior living, education, government, or other institutional facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), and other applicable building codes.
  • Experience with the analysis and layout of HVAC systems, hydronic piping, air distribution systems, and HVAC equipment.
  • Exposure to or experience with plumbing and fire protection systems design is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to early career engineering professionals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project meetings, client engagements, site visits, and collaboration across SFCS offices.


Responsibilities


  • Design and coordinate mechanical systems for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, clients, and consultants to develop practical, efficient, and code-compliant HVAC solutions.
  • Participate in project planning, HVAC system selection, feasibility studies, and preliminary cost estimating.
  • Perform field investigations and evaluate existing HVAC systems for renovation and reuse opportunities.
  • Prepare design development and construction documents utilizing Revit.
  • Develop technical specifications and engineering documentation to support project design and construction.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, and architectural disciplines.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, including shop drawing review, responses to RFIs, site observations, evaluation of proposed changes, and contractor coordination.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to early career engineering professionals while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, technologies, products, and industry best practices to continually enhance project delivery.
