The Clinical Pharmacy Technician plays an important role in protecting our patients from medication errors caused by inaccurate medication histories. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Clinical Pharmacy Technician will function in the critical role of obtaining an accurate medication history. This will include interviewing patients, utilizing software and contacting their outpatient pharmacies/facilities. The home medication list compiled by the Clinical Pharmacy Technician will have any discrepancies reconciled by a registered pharmacist to ensure patient safety and optimize pharmacotherapy. This is a temporary position as part of a pilot for the network that will run through the end of 2024 with potential for continued employment thereafter. Responsibilities A day in the life of a Clinical Pharmacy Technician (Emergency Department) at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: 1. Obtains accurate medication histories from patients in the Emergency Department or inpatient units as necessary Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. At least one year of pharmacy experience (outpatient or inpatient) required. 3. Effective oral and written English communication. 4. Strong ability to multitask. 5. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others. 6. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms. Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Pharmacy Technician License.
2. PTCB Certification Required within 180 days of start of employment with the following exceptions: a. Hired prior to January 2024 b. Actively enrolled in ACPE accredited school of pharmacy / another allied health program or hired before 1-1-24. Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. PTCB Medication History Certification - uncertified candidates are strongly encouraged to pursue certification after employment
