About the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.

About the Women's Reproductive Health Psychiatrist Position

The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a board certified/board eligible Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve on our clinical / clinical research team in the Women's Reproductive Mental Health of Texas (WRMH) program in Austin, Texas. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.

We seek a physician with a comprehensive approach to psychiatric care who will help our Department and the WRMH achieve our goal of working with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that honor the growing community of central Texas while revolutionizing how women get and stay mentally healthy proximate to reproductive life events that are unique to women including preconception planning, pregnancy and the postpartum period, and the perimenopausal transition.

The psychiatrist provides consultation, initial evaluations and follow-up treatment for women struggling with mental health issues in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary and team-oriented approach. Depending on leadership skills, the candidate may progress to clinical and/or academic leadership positions.

We seek candidates committed to providing informed care that restores hope, and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives. Clinical assignments will occur in our clinic at the University of Texas Health Austin on the campus of Dell Medical School and through our department's collaborations with Local Mental Health Authorities and community clinics, with the physician providing clinical care primarily in an outpatient setting.

The successful candidate's appointment within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at Dell Medical School requires regular participation in educational activities with fellows, residents, medical students and other trainees. In addition, the physician will have the opportunity for collaboration that allows for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming, education, and research initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide informed clinical care to women proximate to child-bearing and other reproductive life events unique to women, extending the WRMH's outreach to underserved communities in Texas.
  • Work with Dell Medical School leadership, faculty colleagues and other clinical staff to develop excellence in service and clinical care and ensure expansive access to care for the growing community in Texas.
  • Teach fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees in addition to implementing novel training programs pertinent to reproductive psychiatry in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic inquiry in conjunction with trainees and researchers within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Conduct scholarly work, an expectation of all Dell Medical School faculty. Examples of scholarly work include, but are not limited to, publishing work in high-impact journals, presenting work at national and international meetings, and working with care providers and health care delivery networks to implement research in practice.
  • Facilitate research initiatives, such as, participant recruitment, conduction of clinical research, and dissemination of new learning and innovations.
  • Collaborate with other schools at The University of Texas at Austin and across The University of Texas system.
  • Actively participate in the activities of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and abide by all required Departmental policies.
  • Other responsibilities and clinical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:



  • MD/DO or equivalent Medical Degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of a 4-year adult psychiatry residency
  • Formal experience and/or training in reproductive psychiatry in an academic medical center setting
  • Board certification in Psychiatry by the ABPN
  • Eligible for appointment to the Dell Med faculty as an assistant, associate or full professor
  • Eligible for appointment to the medical staff at Seton Healthcare
  • Strong record in clinical service, education, and research
  • Will possess valid Texas Medical License and state and/or federal license for administration of narcotics.
