Library Instruction Coordinator

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for understanding best practices, current trends, and new technologies for designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating library instruction and information literacy with a strong customer service ethic. In collaboration with the Library Director, the Library Instruction Coordinator oversees the day-to-day management of the instruction program.

PREREQUISITES FOR POSITION (Qualification Standards):




  1. Education or training: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science required.
  2. Years of experience in the field: A minimum of two years of professional experience in a library or learning resource center is required, to include at least one year of experience delivering library instruction and hands-on experience using automated library management systems, electronic databases, instructional technologies, integrated systems, and the Internet. One year of experience coordinating library instruction efforts and evidence of creative or innovative teaching is preferred.
  3. Special skills or abilities related to the position: Ability to build strong connections with students and faculty in order to provide effective instructional programming. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to manage projects and work in a team-based, ever-changing environment. Commitment to the college learning commons concept. Evidence of initiative, resourcefulness, and adaptability. Knowledge of standards and best practices in library instruction and information literacy.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate, design, implement and maintain the library instruction program and other instruction-related activities, to include the coordination, scheduling and teaching of library instruction on-site, online, and at other college sites.
  2. Develop and implement an information literacy program based on institution learning outcomes and industry best practices.
  3. Develop a program to evaluate the effectiveness of library and information literacy instruction; gather, analyze and report data.
  4. Serve as the librarian liaison to several departments to be determined including instruction, collection development, and other support for teaching and information needs.
  5. Participate in library collection maintenance and development.
  6. Provide reference and research services at the reference desk.
  7. Collaborate with Library and Learning Resources staff to develop, implement, evaluate and improve services.
  8. Maintain technical proficiency to continuously modernize the design and delivery of research and library instruction services.
  9. Create research guides in collaboration with fellow librarians.
  10. Participate in outreach and events promotion to maintain the library's presence on campus.
  11. Participate in professional development activities and serve on college committees.
  12. Supervise student assistants and part-time staff as needed to support research and instruction services.
  13. Work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
