JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is actively seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our Hospital Operations team. We are looking for someone with a strong background in healthcare construction estimation and project management, advanced estimating software proficiency, and deep understanding of specialized MEP systems and ICRA protocols.

As a Construction Estimator, you will prepare accurate cost estimates, material takeoffs, and labor projections for complex healthcare facilities and occupied hospital renovations. You will analyze medical blueprints, navigate strict regulatory codes, evaluate subcontractor bids, and collaborate with project teams to ensure clinical spaces are delivered on time and within budget. This role works under general supervision to provide advanced skills in estimating costs of labor and materials required for new construction, modifications, and/or installation of special equipment then provide technical expertise utilizing on-site coordination of materials, labor, and inspections of specific construction projects.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; may or may not require travel to and from other UTSW locations.

Shift Requirement: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

• Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering
    

• Experience
  • 4 years of related estimation and project management experience with Bachelor's degree or
  • 5 years of experience as a project coordinator with completed vocational school training or
  • 10 years in construction industry at journeyman level with 2 years of experience at supervisory level
    

JOB DUTIES

• Performs project estimating, work scheduling, and material take off from conceptual design development and contract document plans and specifications.
• Performs architectural, mechanical, and electrical estimating.
• Maintains cost control procedures.
• Confers with design and construction team members for code requirements in accordance with UTSW policy.
• Generates necessary reports and monitors to maintain projects on time and on budget.
• Reviews plans and specifications prior to issuance for availability of materials; pre-orders long lead items.
• Coordinates with design teams to standardize materials and systems.
• Develops construction schedule in conjunction with Superintendent of Construction and Building Maintenance.
• Reads and interprets architectural plans and contract documents. Develops estimates for materials needed and places orders accordingly.
• Coordinates scheduling of various trades during construction phase. Knowledge of scheduling software preferred.
• Inspects job site on on-going basis to ensure work is being performed in timely and accurate manner.
• Prepares change orders and obtains approval from departments.
• Gives contractor tentative approval to proceed and then obtains final approval from management as appropriate.
• Acts as liaison with user to respond to concerns and obtains approval for any changes in plans or costs.
• Prepares punch list, conducts final inspection, and reviews final billing upon completion of project.
• Secures permits and inspections.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
