Lead Security Systems Technician

At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance on complex electronic security systems, verify that Physical Security Systems drawings reflect accurate as-built configurations, ensure only approved parts and materials are used in work packages, and provide technical input and recommendations to engineering and management on security equipment requirements. You'll conduct self-assessments, complete required training and qualifications, and mentor junior technicians to build technical capability across the team.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• As the Lead Security Technician, you will be the front line supervisor which includes additional duties including, but not limited to: determining work priorities, assigning work, conducting safety briefings, scheduling and coordinating with external customers.
• Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) work orders (WO), corrective maintenance WO's, and modification installation WO's for complex electronic intrusion detection, video assessment, access control, and other security equipment-related work. Actively participate in INL briefings and post-job reviews.
• Verify that consumer-grade items being utilized do not exhibit indications attributed to potential suspect/counterfeit items. Ensure that only approved supplies, parts, and materials are used per the work package. Identify needed spare parts for PSS equipment.
• Implement Physical Security Systems (PSS) equipment labeling practices in accordance with company and PSS procedures.
• Comply with company standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Identify potential hazards or unsafe conditions, which may include exercising "Stop Work Authority."
• Ensure that PSS drawings are maintained in an as-built condition by verifying that the actual physical configuration is depicted accurately on drawings.
• Write work orders per INL work control for the team as needed.
• Conduct and document routine self-assessments and management observations.
• Provide technical input and recommendations to co-workers, customers, supervision, engineering, and management relating to security equipment requirements and applications detailed in Safeguards and Security Program documents.
• Ensure that only Materials and Test Equipment (M&TE) with current and reliable calibration is used, when needed; that M&TE used is of the proper type, range, accuracy, and tolerance to accomplish the function of determining conformance to specified requirements; and that M&TE is calibrated and controlled as required.
• Complete and maintain training, required reading, and qualifications specified for assigned tasks.
• Conduct on-the-job training (OJT) for the Technicians. Train, mentor, and coach junior Technicians as directed.

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or Associate's degree in electronics, instrumentation, or control systems and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Relevant experience includes industrial electronics such as security systems.
• Must be able to complete and maintain the Physical Security Systems Technician training qualifications.
• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Working Conditions:

The work environment is indoor and outdoor environments that may include exposure to ladders, confined spaces, stairs, rooftops, vaults, aerial lifts, working in adverse weather conditions, UV exposure, radiation work, and hazards involving the use of power tools, lasers, and equipment. Work includes operating a keyboard, motor vehicle, and wearing protective clothing. The noise level is generally moderate but with occasional exposure to noisy and/or loud equipment. Requires work of more than 40 hours a week, overtime, and callouts.

Job Information:

• The pay range for this position is $41.42 - $70.41. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
