N.C. Children's Hospital has approximately 190 inpatient beds and a comprehensive children's outpatient center located in the same building, as well as ambulatory clinics at Children's Raleigh.

Department of Pharmacy Overview:

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic and critical part of patient care provided by the UNC Health Care system. UNC's Department of Pharmacy is an organization of more than 500 dedicated employees with focused attention on caring for patients of the UNC Health Care system. Pediatric Pharmacy

Our mission is to provide quality, patient-centered care, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, for all pediatric patients within the Children's Hospital. The Pediatric Services at UNC Hospitals and Clinics are in a period of growth. Both UNC Hospitals and the Department of Pharmacy have realized the significant potential that exists through enhancing current Clinical and Operational pharmacy services within the pediatric division.

The team is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic certified technician specialist to provide comprehensive medication access support for inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients at UNC Children's. The technician specialist demonstrates a high level of expertise and skill in this area of pharmacy practice, including (but not limited to) database management, managing patient medical benefits and formularies, and quality assurance. The Technician Specialist has a high level of autonomy in the role, but consults with the pharmacist when required. The Specialist identifies and initiates process improvement activities. The position may be called upon to provide general technician support to the pharmacist. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provides content expertise of a specialty area, specifically medication access management. Maintains databases, quality control efforts, and/or manages/audits databases in support of pharmacy patient care services.

2. May be required to communicate with vendors to trouble-shoot technology, create and interpret data sets, participate in audits, etc. May communicate directly with patients and providers for care coordination.

3. Initiates inquiries and projects for continuous improvement of pharmacy services. Independently implements identified solutions and project plans.

4. Performs regular pharmacy technician operations responsibilities as needed.

Education Requirements:
* None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.
*CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* One year of pharmacy technician experience required. Prefer prior experience with medication access and/or ambulatory pharmacy settings.
