Job Summary
This position serves as a subject matter expert to provide program administration and consultation including planning, development and implementation of Biology related functions, projects and activities. The position will work closely and collaboratively with adjunct faculty and Dual Enrollment partners to support a variety of initiatives that promote student success and retention. The position oversees online adjunct and Dual Enrollment faculty, including new employee orientation, training, mentoring, and evaluation. This position monitors Academic Integrity as well as writes and clarifies Department policies and procedures to support College and District policies. The position reports to the Faculty Chair of the Biology department, a department within the Academic Affairs division, and participates in department meetings and other activities. This position is available to make decisions for the Department when needed by the Chair. Essential Functions
25% - Trains, Mentors, and Evaluates Online Biology and Dual Enrollment Instructors: Provides leadership, training, mentoring, and ongoing support to online Biology and Dual Enrollment instructors to promote instructional quality, consistency, and student success. Develops and facilitates new instructor orientation and training related to Biology curriculum, instructional expectations, College and District policies, academic integrity, technology, student support resources, and applicable procedures. Provides ongoing mentoring and consultation to instructors, monitors instructional practices and student concerns, and conducts or supports faculty evaluations in accordance with established College and District processes. Identifies professional development needs and recommends resources, training, and other supports to strengthen instructional effectiveness. 20% - Oversees Biology Course Redevelopment and Student Learning Outcomes: Provides leadership and subject matter expertise in the review and redevelopment of Biology courses and instructional materials. Uses data analytics, course outcomes, item analysis, student feedback, success and retention data, and other relevant measures to identify opportunities for curriculum and instructional improvement. Collaborates with Biology faculty and appropriate College stakeholders to evaluate course effectiveness, identify trends and achievement gaps, and recommend changes to curriculum, assessments, instructional materials, and course delivery. Supports the development, implementation, and assessment of annual college-level student learning outcomes and ensures course redevelopment activities are aligned with established academic standards and institutional priorities. 20% - Provides Student, Faculty, and Cross-Departmental Support: Provides consultation and operational support to students, faculty, staff, and other departments regarding Biology-related academic and instructional processes. Supports areas including testing, science laboratories, advising, prerequisites, Dual Enrollment, bookstore coordination, and other student or instructional services as needed. Serves as a subject matter resource for Biology course requirements, placement and prerequisite questions, instructional resources, and student support processes. Collaborates with other departments and College personnel to identify and resolve barriers affecting student progress, course completion, enrollment, and retention. Communicates effectively with internal and external partners to coordinate services and ensure accurate and timely resolution of issues. 10% - Resolves Department, Student, and Academic Integrity Issues: Identifies, researches, evaluates, and resolves complex or sensitive Biology department and student concerns in accordance with College and District policies, procedures, and established practices. Investigates and addresses academic integrity and academic misconduct concerns, including reviewing relevant information, consulting with appropriate faculty and administrators, documenting findings, and coordinating appropriate follow-up. Provides guidance to faculty and students regarding academic policies, procedures, expectations, and available resources. Identifies recurring issues or potential policy gaps and makes recommendations to the Faculty Chair or appropriate leadership to improve processes, communication, compliance, and student outcomes. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, organizational development or directly related field and two (2) years of related experience such as providing advanced program coordination and consultation that includes one or more of the following: planning, development, and/or implementing program projects and activities in the area of assignment. A Master's Degree may be required for some assignments. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. The standard work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm during the Academic Year. This position offers remote work allowing employees a combination of onsite and work from home options. The expected remote work schedule for this position will be determined by the needs of the department. This is a specially funded assignment with a projected end date of 06/30/2027 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD. This position may be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs. May be required to work at multiple sites or locations. Unofficial transcripts must be included in order to be considered for this position.
