Come join our team! $1,000 Retention Bonus (after 1 year) MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Shipping Supervisor in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America. POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates and supervises all activities associated in the Shipping department by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the direction of the Shipping Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for supervising the full and loose cast staging ,truck routing and loading, and preparing accurate shipping documents in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises one lead and one office clerk in addition to the hourly employees in the Shipping Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Shipping Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess good oral and written communication and management skills. Experience with shipping and receiving operations are also necessary. Language Skills: Ability to; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals, write routine reports and correspondences, and to speak effectively before groups of management and employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability; to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Other skills and abilities: Computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel and WMS.
