Target hiring range for this position will be between be range is as be $17.25-$22.09 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

Primary responsibilities of this position are to assist with the daily operation of a biomedical research laboratory, including maintaining human cell culture and animal strains, performing routine histological assessment of animal tissues, and monitoring lab equipment. This position is also responsible for performing occasional molecular biology assays, maintaining accurate laboratory records, ordering lab supplies, preparing solutions/reagents and other duties as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
• Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
• Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities

Molecular Biology:

• DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression Southern, Northern, Western blotting
• PCR, RT-PCR
• Plasmid preparation
• Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
• Recombinant virus production and purification

Cellular Biology:

• Cell culture, cell isolation
• Functional studies
• Transfection

Histology:

• Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
• Immunohistochemistry
• Immunology:
• Flow cytometry
• ELISA, Elispot assay
• Cytokine assay
• Antibody production and purification

Animal:

• Husbandry
• Breeding and screening transgenic mice
• Dissections
• Blood collection
• Surgical procedures
• Database management of colony

• Records test results and may maintain databases.
• Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
• Maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with mammalian cell culture, live animals and histology is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, or a closely related field with at least 1-2 years of experience with mammalian cell culture and animal handling in a research environment.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
• Ability to follow directions;
• Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary work environment;
• Willingness to learn and undergo training;
• Experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, and ImageJ.
