Plumber II (Multiple Positions)

A plumber at the University of Arizona is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in commercial and industrial setting. This includes working with pipes, fixtures, and appliances to ensure proper water flow and drainage. Plumbers diagnose and resolve plumbing issues, perform routine maintenance, and ensure all work complies with local building codes and safety regulations. They also provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients, offering solutions, and delivering high-quality workmanship. The role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

• Installs, repairs, and maintains chilled water, steam, heat, water, gas, drainage, sewage, and other plumbing systems.
• Installation: Install pipes, fixtures, and appliances according to specifications and plumbing codes.
• Repair: Diagnose and repair leaks, blockages, and other issues in plumbing systems.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure proper functioning and prevent future issues.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve plumbing problems using diagnostic tools and techniques.
• Customer Service: Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, provide estimates, and offer solutions.
• Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with local building codes and safety regulations.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used and time spent on each job.
• Emergency Response: Respond to emergency plumbing situations as needed, often outside of regular working hours.
• Inspects joints, pumps, boilers, heaters, sinks, commodes, tanks, valves, and other plumbing system components to locate malfunctions and repairs or replaces them when necessary.
• Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
• Operates reamers, threading discs, sewer tapes, pipe cutters, snakes, and other plumbing equipment and hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of PRVs, steam, vacuum, and air.
• Expert knowledge in plumbing and water/piping systems and schematics.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to squat, kneel, and work in confined or awkward positions for extended periods of time.

• High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, technical training, apprenticeship training, and relevant experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

• Previous experience working as a Journeyman Plumber supporting a large facility (e.g., a school district, hospital, or similar institution).
• Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program.
