Job Overview:

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Registered Nurse (RN) working on the psychiatric inpatient 22 bed Dual Diagnosis Mental Illness (DDMI) unit specializes in treatment of patients with autism and intellectual disabilities and varying medical complexities. Trinitas is proud to be the only hospital in New Jersey with a separate unit to serve this population. The psychiatric inpatient 27 bed closed unit is an involuntary unit. Patients are committed to being inpatient for treatment and can have varying medical complexities. The psychiatric inpatient 21bed open unit is a voluntary unit. Patients are able to sign themselves in for treatment and can have varying medical complexities. Our staff are cross trained to work all the units within our inpatient behavioral health department.

We provide management of acutely ill patients with lift-threatening conditions requiring complex assessment, high- intensity therapies and interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance. Our care management consists of care bundles based on evidence-based practices that are executed with compassion and caring. As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes
• Organizes and administers individualized age-specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care.
• Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning.
• Pursuing continued professional growth through access to continuing education, clinical ladder opportunities, and organizational resources that support long term career progression
• Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
• Supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of the Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, TJC requirements and other regulatory agencies.

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement in good standing and current American Heart Association BLS certification as well as ACLS certification within six (6) months of hire. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred; graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required. At least one (1) year of Behavioral Health Nursing required. Medical/Surgical and or Telemetry nursing experience is preferred, as is Psychiatric-Mental Health certifications and/or national nursing certifications, and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. In this position, you will work 7a-7:30p. This position requires every other weekend and holiday required. The schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs. This position offers a Day Shift schedule and 36 working hours weekly, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
