Job Overview:

• At RWJBarnabas Health, the Director of Patient Care will oversee the Cardiac/Telemetry Unit, a 38-bed unit. This team-oriented unit provides a wide variety of Medical/Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population ie, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias. As a Director of Patient Care, a typical day may include:

• Act as an integral part of the Nursing Leadership Team TRMC
• Responsible for multiple teams who support daily essential patient care
• Provides 24 hour accountability for patient care delivery for specific cost centers
• Staff includes RN's, CNA's, Unit Secretaries, and Telemetry Technicians
• Ensures that quality age appropriate nursing care is delivered to all patients on his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital
• Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education
• Evaluates staff performance in accordance with organizational policies
• Develops, implements and maintains unit budget & quality measures
• Participates in nursing quality assurance
• Maintains unit administration, including scheduling and maintains of supplies and equipment
• Uses and understands the principles of growth and development to assess each patients age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care
• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes
• Organizes and administers individualized age-specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care.
• Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning.
• Pursuing continued professional growth through access to continuing education, clinical ladder opportunities, and organizational resources that support long term career progression
• Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
• Supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of the Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, TJC requirements and other regulatory agencies.

To be considered for this Director opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement in good standing and current American Heart Association BLS certification as well as ACLS certification upon hire. A Master's degree is strongly preferred; Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. At least 3 - 5 years of Med./Surg, Telemetry and/or ER RN experience is required. National nursing certifications such as MEDSURG-BC (Medical-Surgical Nursing Board Certification), PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse), CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse), and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a Day Shift schedule and 37.5 working hours weekly, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance. This position requires every other weekend and holiday required. Schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs.
