Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is looking for a dedicated HIM Specialist to join the Central Medical Records team. This role is Full-time Days working Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm.

HIM Specialist Job Responsibilities:

  • Accurately audits and analyzes electronic health records to ensure adherence to Inova's Physician Documentation Policies and Procedures, Medical Staff By laws, Rules and Regulations, and external regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission, Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services and the State of Virginia.

  • Ensures documentation in the health record reflects timeliness and completeness, as required within set departmental productivity and quality standards.

  • Identifies aging accounts in work queues and reports findings to HIM management.

  • Interacts with Medical Staff Offices, providers, providers' offices staff, and clinical areas regarding medical record restrictions.

  • Notifies providers of delinquent records via electronic medium and verbal communication.

  • Maintains and updates medical record restriction statuses.

  • Provides prompt customer service with internal and external customers.

  • Collaborates with clinical areas to obtain documentation to fulfill regulatory requirements and aid in meeting revenue cycle targets.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or healthcare related field (or 2 years of additional relevant experience).
  • Experience: 2 years working in a hospital medical record department or related experience.
