SUMMARY

The Geospatial Lidar Specialist is responsible for supporting the full geospatial data lifecycle for onsite lidar projects, including survey coordination, data organization, editing, classification, point cloud processing, feature extraction, and development of derivative products such as digital elevation models, digital terrain models, triangulated irregular networks, and contours. This role serves as a technical resource for lidar production workflows, performs independent quality assurance and quality control, and supports the design, development, and implementation of data creation and QA/QC tools. The position also assists with training staff on lidar processing methods and software tools, develops and maintains process documentation and protocols, and provides reporting and technical updates to management as needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:



  • Coordinates all technical aspect of lidar projects, including compliance with quality/specifications.
  • Specialized knowledge in GmL processing procedures.
  • Performs processing of lidar and lidar derivative products
  • Performs QA/QC review of lidar and lidar derivative products.
  • Design survey plans, coordinate with field staff, process/report survey data to project specifications.
  • Responsible for the creation of lidar and lidar derivative product metadata files.
  • Uses complete understanding of industry specifications and standards to deliver compliant lidar and lidar derivative products.
  • Coordinates work efforts of staff assigned to department production tasks.
  • Completes data processing and transformations as necessary.
  • Responsible for the creation of lidar mapping reports, vertical accuracy assessments, QA/QC reports and statistics.
  • Complex review of software for lidar processing and value-added services.
  • Uses complete understanding of lidar principles and additional complex understanding of all geospatial and remote sensing disciplines to act as a technical expert.
  • Support client communications on technical matters as needed.
  • Manage task schedules to meet project deadlines and maximize team efficiency.
  • Lead the development, revision, and optimization of Lidar collection, processing, analytics and quality control Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
  • Serve as a technical resource and primary point of consultation for Lidar staff on workflow optimization, troubleshooting, and system best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in geomatics, engineering, or geography or a relevant field of study. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education requirement.

EXPERIENCE:



  • 5 years of professional progressive experience with lidar data in the areas of collection, editing, analysis, and QA/QC.
  • Background in lidar and advanced technical expertise in all phases of lidar processes.
  • Knowledge of GIS and imagery workflows involving raster data, including satellite and aerial imagery processing.
  • Strong skills with TerraScan/Solid/Match, TopoDOT, Microstation, LP360, LASTools, Global Mapper, ArcPro, QGIS, GeoCue, etc.
  • Model Builder, hydrology tools, and breakline creation workflows.
  • Preferred experience with software tools including: MissionPro, FLightPro, HxMap, CloudPro, Lidar Survey Studio, ESRI ArcGIS, Applanix PosPAC.
  • Candidates must demonstrate relevant hands-on experience across multiple projects



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ESRI Technical Certification(s) are preferred

Salary Range: 80K - 105K annual
