The Office of the University Counsel (OUC) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for an FOIA/eDiscovery Paralegal for the 2026-27 Academic Year. This is a part-time wage position that will work 24 hours each week with the OUC assisting the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer/eDiscovery Manager and supporting OUC litigation attorneys. OUC represents UVA in all legal and regulatory matters and provides advice and counsel to the Board of Visitors, the President, executive officers, and other administrators, faculty, and staff in their official capacities for both the Academic Division and the Medical Center. UVA's FOIA Office operates under the auspices of the OUC and is responsible forreceiving and responding to public records requests made to UVA under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, as well as working with the OUC on subpoena responses, document preservation notices and holds, and eDiscovery management. As FOIA/eDiscovery Paralegal, the successful candidate will support the FOIA Officer/eDiscovery Manager with reviewing and responding to FOIA requests and subpoenas in a timely manner. Support OUC lawyers and other office personnel with a full range of legal assistant duties (e.g., answering the phone, word-processing, proofreading, copying, scheduling meetings, preparing documents)
Required Competencies
Position Compensation: $22.00 - $25.00 Hourly, depending on experience. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, but the successful candidate may also perform work remotely at times, at the discretion of the University Counsel. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. Experience: 1+ year of relevant experience required. Licensure: None. Preferred Requirements: Graduate of a four-year institution of higher education, and experience working in an administrative support role in a business office, law firm or law department, or at an institution of higher education, or other relevant role, is required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
