Senior Process Engineer
About the Role
At Marotta Controls, we don't believe manufacturing engineering is simply about maintaining the status quo. We build highly engineered aerospace and defense systems where precision, reliability, and performance matter-and we're looking for a Senior Process Engineer who wants to help transform how those products are built. This is not a traditional
Senior Process Engineer role.
At Marotta, our
Process Engineers are deeply involved in the entire manufacturing environment. You'll work directly with production teams, develop and improve manufacturing processes, lead Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives, establish new production cells, introduce automation, improve facility and production infrastructure, and help shape the manufacturing environment of the future.
If you see a production problem and immediately start thinking about how to eliminate it, automate it, simplify it, or redesign the process-you'll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
You'll work hands-on with our production teams to understand how products are actually built and identify opportunities to make the process
faster, easier, safer, more repeatable, and more cost effective.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for complex aerospace and electromechanical products.
- Reduce production build time, labor content, scrap, rework, and overall cost of production.
- Design processes that allow technicians to build products efficiently while maintaining the highest levels of quality and workmanship.
- Develop tooling, fixtures, workstations, assembly aids, and other manufacturing solutions that make the technician's job easier.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate unnecessary steps, motion, waiting, handling, and other sources of manufacturing waste.
- Work directly with technicians and production leadership to understand challenges and develop practical solutions.
Build the Factory of the Future
- Establish and launch new production cells and manufacturing areas.
- Develop future-state manufacturing concepts and layouts.
- Introduce automation, semi-automation, robotics, digital manufacturing technologies, and other advanced manufacturing solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and determine where they can provide meaningful improvements to our operations.
- Help transform our production floor into a clean, organized, efficient, technology-driven manufacturing environment.
- Participate in facility expansion, equipment installation, production infrastructure, and building-system projects that directly support manufacturing.
Lead Continuous Improvement
- Lead and participate in Kaizen events and cross-functional improvement initiatives.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, root-cause analysis, and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Identify and eliminate process bottlenecks and constraints.
- Develop and implement standard work and process controls.
- Establish measurable improvements in productivity, quality, cost, throughput, and lead time.
- Use data to identify opportunities and demonstrate the impact of implemented improvements.
Take Ownership of Big Projects
You may find yourself:
- Designing a new production cell.
- Reconfiguring an entire manufacturing area.
- Developing an automated assembly process.
- Selecting and implementing new manufacturing equipment.
- Developing tooling and fixtures.
- Improving facility infrastructure supporting production.
- Supporting the construction and commissioning of new manufacturing space.
- Developing a strategy to reduce the build time of a complex aerospace assembly.
- Working with suppliers and integrators to implement new technology.
- Leading a project from the initial concept through implementation and production release.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant experience in manufacturing or process engineering, preferably within aerospace, defense, electronics, electromechanical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience leading or participating in Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar improvement activities.
- Experience developing production cells, manufacturing layouts, tooling, fixtures, or assembly processes.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and production environments.
- Experience working directly with manufacturing technicians and production personnel.
- Ability to lead cross-functional projects from concept through implementation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work comfortably between engineering, production, facilities, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and leadership teams.
- A practical, hands-on approach to engineering.
Work Environment
- This role operates in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment.
- The employee may be exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing or machine shop setting, including fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, vibration, and temperature changes.
- Standard office equipment is used regularly, including computers, phones, printers, scanners, and copiers.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment may be required, including eye, hearing, and foot protection.
- Some travel may be required, approximately 5-10%.
- This is a full-time position.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to talk, hear, and communicate effectively.
- Frequent use of hands and arms, including reaching, handling, and operating tools or equipment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, approximately 7-8 hours daily, and regularly walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, crouch, and move throughout the facility.
- Ability to skillfully use measuring instruments, hand tools, and power tools.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
