Job Summary

We are seeking a Systems Integration Engineer for a fixed-term, project-focused position supporting the new UCDH CA Tower. This is a full-time position with an anticipated end date on or before December 31, 2030, aligning with the projected completion of the CA Tower project. Employment in this position is directly tied to the lifecycle of the CA Tower project and is expected to conclude upon the project's completion.

The Systems Integration Engineer 4 serves as a technical subject matter expert supporting the design, integration, and deployment of the Patient Engagement System (PES) technologies, working closely with Schneider Electric and internal clinical, digital health, and infrastructure teams to operationalize defined patient engagement use cases and part of the CA Tower project. With direction from the IT Facilities and Infrastructure leadership, and in coordination with the FP&D construction teams, this incumbent is responsible for the development of the technical requirements and implementation strategies supporting the patient engagement technologies and audiovisual (AV) systems for the CA Tower project.

Incumbent applies advanced systems and software integration concepts, and location or institutional objectives, to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of systems and software requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors to resolve and implement the broad scope and complexity of the patient engagement system (PES) related to the CA Tower project. Incumbent resolves highly complex business processes, system functionality, implementation issues and system and software integration issues related to the PES system, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Selects tools, methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. May give technical presentations to associated teams, other technical units and management regarding the PES system. May lead a team of systems / infrastructure professionals. As with all team members, this individual is expected to proactively meet or exceed our customers' expectations related to the PES system for the CA Tower project.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, systems administration, or technical infrastructure support, with at least 5 years supporting enterprise audiovisual (AV) technologies, patient engagement platforms, or healthcare technology systems.
  • Expert Knowledge and Skills Required:
  1. Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, systems administration, or technical infrastructure support, with at least 5 years supporting enterprise audiovisual (AV) technologies, patient engagement platforms, or healthcare technology systems.
  2. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, integrating, and supporting enterprise AV systems, including but not limited to:
  • Digital signage platforms
  • Conference room technologies
  • Video conferencing solutions (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Cisco Webex)
  • IPTV and streaming media solutions
  • Interactive displays and collaboration technologies
  • Audio processing, DSPs, microphones, amplifiers, and control systems
  • AV-over-IP technologies
  1. Extensive experience supporting patient engagement technologies, such as:
  • Bedside patient entertainment and education systems
  • Digital whiteboards
  • Interactive patient communication platforms
  • Nurse call integration
  • Patient room control systems
  • Patient experience applications
  • Integration with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (preferred)
  1. Experience integrating AV and patient engagement technologies with:
  • Enterprise networking infrastructure

  1. Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise technologies in a hospital, academic medical center, or other highly regulated healthcare environment with an understanding of:

  • Healthcare technology deployment standards
  1. Experience performing systems engineering activities including:
  • Infrastructure architecture and design
  • Systems lifecycle planning
  • Capacity planning
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Performance monitoring and optimization
  • Patch and lifecycle management
  • Systems documentation and technical standards development
  • Experience leading complex technical implementations involving multiple stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional IT teams.
    • Demonstrated success managing vendor relationships, reviewing technical specifications, evaluating new technologies, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
    • Experience troubleshooting complex enterprise hardware, software, networking, and systems integration issues with minimal supervision.
    • Experience supporting projects throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, implementation, testing, transition to operations, and production support.
    • Experience mentoring junior engineers and technical staff while providing technical leadership on enterprise initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certifications are highly desirable, such as:
    • CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D (AVIXA)
    • Cisco CCNA/CCNP
    • Microsoft Certified
    • Crestron Certified Programmer/Technician
    • Extron Control Professional
    • ITIL Foundation
    • PMP (preferred for project leadership)
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, systems administration, or technical infrasructure support, with at least eight years supporting enterprise audiovisual (AV) technologies, patient engagement platforms, or healthcare technology systems.
  • Supplemental Skills:
    • Experienced with EPIC.
    • Experienced with project management methodology.
    • Experienced with relational database design and theory, with a broad understanding of TCP/IP networking protocols.
    • Experience supporting healthcare construction, renovation, or expansion projects involving AV and patient technology deployments.
    • Experience with patient engagement platforms from vendors such as:
      • GetWellNetwork
      • SONIFI Health
      • Oneview Healthcare
      • Aceso Interactive
      • Pillow Interactive
      • Experience with enterprise AV manufacturers and technologies, including: Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Cisco, Poly, Shure, Logitech
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and cloud-based AV management platforms.
  • Experience with structured cabling, network infrastructure, PoE technologies, and telecommunications room design.
  • Experience with ITIL service management processes, change management, incident management, and problem management.

This Systems Integration Engineer 4 is part of Information Technology, specifically IT Facilities, and is responsible for implementing a combination of technology and process solutions to interface and integrate disparate clinical and business applications as part of the PES system for the CA Tower project at UC Davis Health System. The Senior Interface Engineer 4 is a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure.
