1. Assistant Controller I SUNY Broome Community College has an immediate opening for an in-person, fulltime, Assistant Controller I in the Finance Office. The Assistant Controller I reports to the Associate Vice President & Controller or the Assistant Controller II. This position performs professional accounting duties with regard to review, analysis, and supervision of financial and accounting records and is responsible for daily accounting controls. This position has a standard workweek of Monday through Friday, occasional Saturday as needed.
The Assistant Controller I effectively communicates knowledge of accounting principles, best practices, procedures, and regulations to the accounting staff as well as other professional counterparts in key college offices and outside agencies. Coordinates and is responsible for assigned reconciliations, grant billing and receiving, payroll accounting, interfacing from sub-ledgers to general ledgers and capital project accounting.
Requirements: A Bachelor's degree with specialization in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field with eighteen (18) credits of accounting is required. Knowledge of Title IV student financial aid accounting principles and procedures is desirable. Three (3) years of accounting experience is required. A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience is required. Position requires thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, including internal auditing, accounting, fiscal management, and working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets. Knowledge of federal, state, and local grant funding practices and procedures is desirable. Strong ability to analyze complex financial data, reports, and financial statements, review information, identify problems, and propose solutions. Perform research, interpret a variety of specific needs, and generate activity reports in response to internal and external requests. Ability to manage (plan, budget, staff, evaluate), effectively a department with a variety of functions and supervise work of others. The minimum salary for this position is $68,361. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
2. Senior Account Clerk SUNY Broome Community College is seeking qualified applicants for Senior Account Clerk in the Finance Office. The Senior Account Clerk reports directly to the Assistant Controller. This is an in-person, full-time, 12-month position, with a standard workweek of Monday through Friday.
A highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Account Clerk is needed to support core financial operations, including general accounting, payroll reconciliation, payment issuance, grant billing, new vendor set up and capital project transactions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the organization's financial information.
Requirements: A. Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree or higher in accounting, business, or a closely related field; OR B. Completion of 60 credit hours at a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university which must have included at least twelve credit hours in accounting or bookkeeping; OR C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
The hourly rate for this position is $19.18.
3. Student Accounts Specialist- Provisional SUNY Broome Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a Student Accounts Specialist in the Finance Office. This is an in-person, full-time, 12-month position, with a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. This appointment is provisional pending satisfactory completion of the Civil Service testing requirement.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. They will have the ability to analyze and organize data, and to prepare and maintain reports and spreadsheets. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The candidate should be able to Human Resources Office develop proficiency in the Banner Student Information System and maintain working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. Additionally, the role requires strong organizational skills, including adaptability, dependability, multitasking, and the ability to work efficiently and accurately in an environment with frequent interruptions, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
Requirements: (A) Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in accounting, business, or a closely related field and two years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR (B) Completion of 60 credit hours at a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university which must have included at least eight credit hours in accounting or bookkeeping and two years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR (C) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR (D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
The hourly rate for this position is $22.44.
Appointment will be provisional pending satisfactory completion of the competitive Civil Service testing requirement.
