We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Abstract Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a team of Lease Administrators at our corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, Maryland and our third-party co-sourcing partners. This is a compelling opportunity for a proven team leader and lease administration expert to make a meaningful impact on lease data integrity, billing accuracy, and operational excellence across a high-performing retail real estate portfolio. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Accounting, Finance, Property Operations, and Legal, while helping to enhance processes, resolve complex lease matters, and provide reporting and analysis that support sound business decisions.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a critical function within a respected real estate organization, influence key operational processes, and work closely with cross-functional stakeholders across the business. It is well suited for a candidate who enjoys combining technical lease administration expertise with team leadership, process improvement, and business partnership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the abstracting and setup of lease documents for a portfolio, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the lease lifecycle, including review and approval of lease setup packages and rent commencement letters.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and workflow oversight for a team of Lease Administrators and third-party co-sourcing partners.
  • Oversee straight-line rent calculations, adjustments, and postings with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee the gross sales and percentage rent process, including review of accruals, variance explanations, and summary reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Identify and escalate complex or problematic lease language that may create operational or financial risk and prepare financial impact analyses as needed.
  • Review and approve key lease administration transactions, including co-tenancy schedules, tenant account adjustments, tenant refunds, and related activities.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and deliverables consistently meet high standards for quality, accuracy, and service.
  • Serve as a trusted resource to Lease Administrators and cross-functional partners on lease interpretation, administration, and billing matters.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve controls, and implement best practices that enhance team effectiveness.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and collaborate effectively with Operations, Finance, Accounting, and Legal.
  • Lead and contribute to special projects and other initiatives that support the broader business.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Accounting or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of commercial real estate lease administration experience, including 3+ years in a people leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple workstreams effectively.
  • Deep lease interpretation skills and the ability to research and resolve complex lease issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new concepts, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated success identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and intermediate Excel skills required, JD Edwards experience preferred.

Salary Range:The typical pay range is $120,000-$135,000 a year plus bonus. Salary is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education, training, and/or certifications.
