Within Azure Data, the databases team builds andmaintainsMicrosoft's operational Database systems. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. The SQL team is hiring a Software Engineer for a position within the regional capacity optimization time.The regional capacity optimization team works on the placement optimization problem for Azure SQLDB across different planes of the infrastructure with the goal of real-time hierarchicalutilizationmanagement.The challenges include issues in multiple areas of computer science and mathematics including distributed systems problems, search/algorithmic efficiency, security, numerical analysis, statistics, and general problems relating to public cloud scale.The candidate needs to be detail oriented, with initiative to verify assumptions, solutions, and understand how things work.Being data-driven is a requirement. As a result, our customers are better served. Responsibilities Evaluates different ideas and approaches for SQL database placement optimization across clusters and across nodes. Develops datasets using production telemetry data to model and evaluate ideas. Improves and/or replaces optimization strategies within the team's component areas. Supports regional optimization at the cluster level and at the node level, along with the SQLDB cloud service. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience. Additional Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year.
