Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Senior/Principal Mechanical Project Engineer in OH area. The Senior/Principal Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing projects relating to manufacturing equipment and processes. Additionally, the Senior/Principal Mechanical Project Engineer will have the opportunity to work closely with various teams within the organization, including AWI's manufacturing, Innovation, New Product Development, plant and operations staff, along with outside suppliers.

What will you do?

  • Lead and execute major capital projects, ensuring delivery to agreed cost, schedule, safety, and performance objectives
  • Specify production equipment and work directly with vendors to design, procure, install, and commission assets for new production lines in existing facilities or new facilities
  • Investigate process and equipment issues, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend and implement corrective actions to improve performance and reliability
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering and precision maintenance principles to all work performed, with emphasis on safety, reliability, and lifecycle performance
  • Actively participate as a key member of crossfunctional project teams, supporting capital projects from concept development through asset installation and startup
  • Participate in Agile and Lean events to drive rapid and sustainable process improvements
  • Mentor, train, and develop engineers and maintenance personnel on technical standards, engineering best practices, and precision maintenance principles
  • Support condition of assets, reliability initiatives, and other corporate or plantlevel programs
  • Work closely with plant engineering, maintenance, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure customer requirements and operational expectations are met
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to lessexperienced engineers at both corporate (AWI) and plant levels

Travel

  • Up to 50% depending on the scope and phases of ongoing projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline
  • 5-7 years of experience in project planning and execution within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Handson experience supporting equipment installation, construction, and startup activities in an operating manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across organizational functions and business units
  • Experience working with SAP or comparable enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Experience developing and managing project cost estimates, including capital budgeting and cost control

  • Demonstrated technical presentation skills, including the ability to clearly communicate concepts, project status, and recommendations to diverse audiences
  • Experience preparing and reviewing equipment and construction specifications

What will make you stand out?

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Lean Practitioner certification or experience utilizing Lean tools
  • Previous project management experience
