Job Summary

The Lead Angiography Technologist provides technical knowledge and/or coordinates the delivery of Interventional Radiology Services. Operational responsibilities include participating as Charge Tech to facilitate a smooth workflow and effective communication processes among caregivers. Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating all aspects of services delivered ensuring high-quality care, patient safety, and a level of customer service that strives to exceed internal and external customer expectations. Interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and coordinate care as needed.

The Lead Angiography Technologist will be responsible for the protocols, dose reduction, and image quality of the Angiography Department. The position will be a trainer of new staff and new technologies. Requires the candidate to be advanced in use of the PACS and Radiology Information System.

The incumbent operates various angiography control consoles, tube assemblies, and patient tables in order to perform diagnostic procedures for all suites in the Interventional Department. The incumbent ensures policies, procedures and protocols are followed in efforts to provide safe, efficient and quality examinations. Ensures work routines are followed based on established procedures and protocols; quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the Principal Radiological Technologist - Supervisor, Department Manager or appropriate radiologist. Incumbent works independently and under general supervision.

Incumbent may be required to oversee provision of radiological services and staffing coverage in absence of supervisor, which may require temporary working hour changes to provide adequate supervisor coverage when necessary. The incumbent may be responsible for coordinating or adjusting staffing as necessary to provide adequate support to all areas of the department. The incumbent will need to perform any job function of an Angio technologist, which may entail rotating shifts and/or assigned work location. Performs calmly in stressful situations and interacts with radiologists, clinicians and peers in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness. Will be required to take call on a rotational basis.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) by the California Department of Public Health
  • Valid CA Fluoroscopy Permit
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • ARRT (R) Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • ARRT (VI) Vascular Interventional Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Graduation from a Radiologic Technologist Program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • One (1) year experience as an Angiography Technologist
  • Assist physicians with specialized diagnostic and interventional procedures by handling equipment, preparing procedure and instrument trays, prepping, and explaining procedures to patients and other related tasks under supervision of an Interventional Radiologist.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, surgical and nursing procedures.
  • Ability to remain flexible with scheduling changes throughout day to accommodate patient care needs.
  • Ability to use basic nursing skills and CPR.
  • Skill to communicate clearly and effectively on the telephone, in person and written document.
  • Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to react quickly and knowledgeably in emergency situations.
  • Must be a self-starter requiring minimal direction from supervisor or physicians.
  • Ability to display common sense and good judgement in following rules, protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to fill out departmental and hospital report forms and records.
  • Knowledge of Department Policy and Procedure.
  • Ability to perform on an independent level, using initiative and ingenuity to assist the Radiologist in achieving a diagnosis.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, anticipates shifting priorities, and manage change effectivley.
  • Organizational skills to establish workload priorities for completion of all tasks in a timely manner.

  • Must have knowledge of Joint Commission requirements, Title 17 law, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ability and skills to be sensitive and professional with patients, physicians, and staff in relations and appearance.

  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Knowledge of standard keyboard, ability to input/retrieve data accurately and to observe applicable Radiology Information System (RIS) and Information Services (IS) access codes, security, and patient privacy.
  • Ability to operate Epic, iSite PACS, Excel, Word and other systems for documentation activities and report generation.
  • Competent in archiving, retrieving and exceptions handling with the PACS system.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient records and information.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and dependability, i.e., (but not limited to): attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, initiation of duties not specifically stated (linen, supplies, cleanliness of work area), maintenance/upkeep of equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge of the principles of body mechanics and body alignment when turning, moving and transferring patients.

  • I.V. Certification
  • A.S. in Radiologic Science/Radiologic Technology
  • Contrast Administration experience

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing Imaging Services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients.

Department Specific Job Scope

Under supervision, incumbents perform the range of typical duties outlined in the series concept. Incumbents must demonstrate advanced understanding of both neuro and vascular cases to include, image quality assessment and improvement plans, equipment performance, regulatory/accreditation requirements, performance improvement processes, change management, patient throughput, fiscal implications and the various information technologies present in medical imaging and interventional departments. The incumbent Coordinates department workflow to ensure maximum efficiency, assumes primary responsibility in the absence of the supervisor as well as coordinating and delivering staff education, and providing individual instruction to staff on as needed basis.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
