Government Affairs Specialist (Syracuse)

Charter's State Government Affairs team is tasked with achieving the company's franchising, legislative and regulatory goals on a state and local level. We are seeking a bright, determined, and committed Government Affairs Specialist to join the team to assist in driving Charter's priorities.

As a Government Affairs Specialist, you will play a vital role in coordinating and supporting strategies that support the growth of Charter's Northeast Markets at the state and local level. This position will work closely with the Northeast State Government Affairs team to support the achievement of legislative, community engagement, franchising, and regulatory goals. The position will report to the Senior Director, Government Affairs Northeast. Your focus on state government affairs initiatives and strategic planning will help drive our company's success.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Contributing and supporting Charter's government affairs strategies and tactics in the Northeast.
  • Actively and consistently supports all efforts of the Northeast Government Affairs team's objectives
  • Support Directors of Government Affairs with local franchising needs, projects, and administrative tasks as needed
  • Oversee administration of franchise related filings to ensure timely and accurate filing of notices, applications, and reports.
  • Prepare and file franchise renewal applications and reports, plus other related franchise compliance matters
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and communicating terms and conditions of franchises, franchise-related agreements, and other contracts for implementation to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations
  • Prepare, analyze, forecast, and regularly track annual budget, including developing reports, and management and communication of results
  • Assist in compliance activities related to lobbying disclosure regulations and election law
  • Representing the company before external constituencies, including elected officials and other state and local government agencies, commissions and authorities, and organizing and representing the company at community events and other external functions
  • Completing other duties/responsibilities as required

The State Government Affairs team is responsible for educating local and state officials about Charter's policy positions and advocating for laws, regulations and ordinances that advance the company's business priorities. As a member of the state team, you will work closely with the Northeast Government Affairs team to ensure Charter's interests and the interests of Charter's customers are well represented in state and local policies.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Experience

  • 5+ years administrative or support experience

Skills

  • Analytical and interpersonal skills to manage and foster change
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Strong written, verbal and communication abilities
  • Ability to multitask and keep multiple projects on track and on budget
  • Effective prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Power Point, Outlook and Publishing

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid driver's license
  • Satisfactory driving record within Spectrum standards
  • Auto insurance

The base pay for this position generally is between $50,400.00 and $80,600.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
