The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) and is responsible for fulfilling its teaching, research, and clinical missions. DOM employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, nearly 200 academic appointees, and more than 300 residents, fellows, and postdocs, supported by almost 1,000 staff members. Under the oversight of the Clinical Trials leadership and under the direction of the Division Chief/ Director of Research/ Clinical Trials and as member of the Cardiovascular Clinical Trials Unit (CCRU), the incumbent serves as the Clinical Research Budget & Finance Analyst supporting the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Unit under the Division of Cardiology. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for oversight and management of the unit's financial operations, with a primary focus on planning, monitoring, and optimizing the unit-wide budget, including clinical trials and other fund sources. The incumbent oversees financial activities associated with divisional portfolios, including all Clinical Trials Administration (OCTA) and Office of Contracts and Grants (OCGA) initiated clinical trials with private, for-profit firms, and other federal, state, or regional agencies. Responsibilities include managing, planning, implementation, and tracking of fiscal and operational processes for the unit. The incumbent oversees the contract execution processes, invoicing structures, fiscal management, expenditure approval, cost transfers, reporting, and analysis. Will participate in budget negotiations, developing written agreements/ contracts, and monitoring implementation process. Will provide fiscal advice, assistance and guidance to faculty and divisional support staff and ensure compliance with UCSD and local and federal governmental rules, regulations and policies. Develops strategies for deployment and allocation of resources, fiscal coordination, management of budgets, and oversight of each of these tasks to ensure goals and objectives are met in a timely manner; ensures expenditures are in line with financial strategies in collaboration with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and unit/ site directors and fiscal managers/ coordinators. Will be responsible for performing in several operational and financial applications which are vital to the operation of the division. Performs payroll source funding solutions for faculty and staff, will lead and work in cooperation with the Contract and Grant Officers, Sponsored Project and Business Office Fiscal Managers, General Accounting and other central personnel team members as needed.
