Paid Time Off:

Position Description

Starting Hourly Wage: $36.06 - $45.67/hour; depending on experience

Location: Lynnwood, WA - Hybrid

Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

The Business Development (BD) Specialist is responsible or supporting UMC's business development and sales efforts. This role involves managing the CRM, identifying publicly available project opportunities in existing markets, coordinating UMC presence at client events, doing client and marketing research, and supporting client engagements with relationship management information. The BD Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring UMC has accurate and actionable business information to pursue and win new work.

Key Responsibilities:

Information Management:

  1. Acts as the "super-user" for CRM within UMC. Is the primary contact with our CRM support rep and learns how to manage the database and make major adjustments when needed. Attends "train the trainer" sessions to be able to train UMC employees on CRM processes.
  2. Maintains and updates client/partner contact information in the CRM.
  3. Provides timely and accurate project opportunity data to help inform go/no go decisions.
  4. Collaborates with Vice President of Development and others to develop and implement best practices to create a robust CRM system.

Lead Qualification and Intelligence:

  1. Researches and presents potential leads for business development based on predefined criteria such as project scope, budget, and fit with UMC's capabilities and expertise.
  2. Gathers and provides relevant intelligence on leads including project details and any potential connections or relationships that can enhance the client outreach process.
  3. Assists with market research and client research projects as needed.
  4. Provides information and research for any client follow-up activities related to opportunity leads.

Industry and Client Events:

  1. Coordinates UMC's corporate industry associations, events, and sponsorships. Collaborates with the marketing department to ensure branding and communications. This includes:
  2. Manages/leads golf tournament sponsorships, including strategy, setup, staffing, ordering materials and swag, and follow-up.
  3. Manages jobsite-requested client appreciation events, such as coffee carts.
  4. Manages UMC's other client appreciation events. This includes managing UMC's season tickets (i.e. Kraken, Sounders). Other examples may also include, but is not limited to, assisting as needed with fishing trips, etc.
  5. Ensures we are engaging and attending events that we sponsor, strategizing on the best ROI for our sponsorship.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the process of updating a client/partner contact list when specific lists are needed for communications or events.
  2. Supports the execution of UMC's Client Excellence program to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. This may include implementing automated client relationship management processes in CRM and ensuring client relationship needs are met.
  3. Coordinates with marketing to arrange any branded advertising, etc. in response to sponsorship needs.
  4. Collaborates with the marketing team to provide assistance and information for holiday client gifts as needed.
  5. Collaborates with the marketing team to provide information for UConnect and social media postings as is relevant.
Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to write and communicate in a clear and compelling manner, with a strong command of English grammar and editing.
  2. Comfortable speaking with internal teams and external vendors.
  3. Time management skills and ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  4. Ability to consistently manage multiple tasks, prioritize those efforts, and be adaptable and able to respond quickly and efficiently as priorities shift.
  5. Comfortable asking for help.
  6. Initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness, with the ability to execute effectively with attention to detail.
  7. Excellent organizational skills, ability to build relationships with various team members, proficient collaboration and coordination abilities, and efficient time management when faced with multiple deadlines.
  8. Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills with a hands-on and team-oriented attitude.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or Design); or equivalent experience
  2. 2+ years of relevant experience required.
  3. Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems is a plus

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

  1. Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
