Job Description

The Corporate Principal Metallurgy Engineer is accountable for creating and implementing the strategic vision for the metallurgical discipline across PCC. Drive improvements in quality through ensuring strong metallurgical discipline across all sites, work with Divisional Quality Leaders and SME team to enhance metallurgical processes. Utilize data to establish improvement strategy with priorities based on risk to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing the minimum standards, pathways, and processes for effective metallurgical succession planning and talent development. Working with HR and relevant leaders in the business, the objective is to establish framework and partnerships to ensure that the following can be effectively implemented at the relevant business level.
    • Each business shall have a succession plan for its metallurgical leadership functions.
    • Each business shall have a pipeline of metallurgical talent to support the key metallurgical roles of the plants.
  • Coordinating metallurgical SMEs and metallurgical laboratory capabilities across the business to ensure that resources are deployed effectively to address the most challenging metallurgical issues for PCC.
  • Creating strong third-party partnerships with selected institutions that supports/underpins items 1 and 2 and provides access to metallurgical expertise and capabilities while protecting PCC IP and trade secrets.
  • Identifying multi-business opportunities to deliver improved products that deliver EBIT opportunity through value to the customer. Examples may include products/processes that eliminate quality issues, more capable products that provide design opportunity or products/processes that meet internal and external sustainability objectives. Linking across business to leverage funding for development to maximize the return on investment from such activities.
  • Participating in the creation and implementation of the strategic roadmap. Providing the metallurgical input to PCC's business goals
  • Quality: Coordinate with quality team to provide metallurgical input to significant quality issues and establish consistent metallurgical standards for investigations into root cause and corrective actions.
  • Develop improvement strategies, utilizing data, that will improve metallurgical processes/procedures to reduce variation and lower product risk. Coordinate strategies with Divisional Quality Leaders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to metallurgical engineering, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements and flow those down to PCC's businesses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) Preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in metallurgical engineering, materials research, or a related field, with a proven track record of leadership and achievement. Experience in business or operational leadership leading cross functional teams in a large organization is desirable.
  • A track record in developing and implementing strategic change at a senior level.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply scientific principles to practical engineering challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgical principles, materials characterization techniques, and metallurgical testing methods.
  • Experience in project management, including project planning, execution, and resource management, is desirable.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Professional Engineer, Certified Metallurgist) may be advantageous.
  • Experience working in aerospace quality/technical position, and experience with aerospace customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Zero Defect Methodology
  • Demonstrated experience applying quality methods and problem-solving tools (8D, Six Sigma, PFD's, FMEA, process control, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Minitab or other statistical software preferred.
  • Ability to travel 60% to PCC and supplier facilities

For informational purposes only, the range for annual base salary for this role is $208,000 to $240,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Executive Bonus Plan, paid out up to 35% of the applicable annual base salary, based on the Company's performance in the prior calendar year. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To comply with those regulations, this position may require applicants to be U.S. Persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
