Job Summary
Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Brake Press Set-Up Operator to join our fabrication team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating brake press equipment to form and bend metal components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint reading skills, experience selecting tooling and making program adjustments, and the ability to consistently produce quality parts in a heavy manufacturing environment. This role works closely with fabrication, welding, and quality teams to ensure components meet dimensional and quality requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Set up and operate brake press equipment to bend and form metal components according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, manufacturing drawings, and shop documentation.
  • Select, install, and verify proper tooling and machine setup for each job.
  • Determine appropriate forming methods and bend sequences for efficient production.
  • Edit existing machine programs and make machine or setup adjustments as necessary to maintain dimensional accuracy, quality, and productivity.
  • Verify first-piece and final-piece dimensions using calipers, tape measures, squares, protractors, and other measuring equipment.
  • Inspect parts throughout the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Move materials and finished components using overhead cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Complete production paperwork and maintain accurate records.
  • Work closely with supervisors, quality personnel, programmers, and other fabrication team members to resolve production issues.
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in a clean and organized condition.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years of brake press setup and operation experience preferred.
  • Strong blueprint reading and dimensional interpretation skills required.
  • Ability to independently determine tooling selection, machine setup, and program adjustments based on material type, thickness, and bend requirements.
  • Experience with 175-ton, 350-ton or larger brake presses preferred.
  • Experience working with structural steel, heavy plate, weldments, and custom fabricated components preferred.
  • Strong understanding of bend deductions, bend allowances, and forming principles preferred.
  • Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment including tape measures, calipers, squares, protractors, and gauges.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize work and perform in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must maintain regular attendance and work scheduled shifts.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to work with large steel components and fabricated assemblies.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
