The Diane Filion Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is hiring an Instructional Designer II to support faculty in designing and improving online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses. CAFE is UMKC's hub for instructional innovation and faculty development, serving all academic units with a commitment to inclusive, effective, and engaging teaching.

As part of the instructional design team at CAFE, the Instructional Designer II works directly with faculty to enhance course design, integrate evidence-based teaching practices, and support student success. This position combines pedagogical consultation with technical knowledge of instructional tools and plays a key role in improving the quality and accessibility of learning experiences across the university.

Key Responsibilities:
* Partner with faculty to design, revise, and enhance online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses aligned with best practices in teaching and learning.
* Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessibility standards to ensure inclusive and equitable course environments.
* Facilitate workshops, consultations, and other professional learning opportunities focused on instructional design and effective teaching.
* Conduct course quality reviews and provide faculty with constructive, actionable feedback.
* Collaborate with partners in Academic Technology Services, Student Disability Services, and academic units to support integrated instructional planning.
* Stay current with trends in instructional design, online learning, and educational technology; share findings with faculty and team members.
* Contribute to CAFE's campus-wide programming and initiatives that promote instructional excellence and student-centered learning.

Work Environment:
Instructional Designers at CAFE work collaboratively with colleagues across the university to advance instructional quality and faculty support.

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

* Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, or a related field
* Familiarity with instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design) and learning theories
* Experience using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and course development tools
* Knowledge of accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG 2.1, Section 508) and UDL best practices
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty
* Capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
* Awareness of how emerging instructional technologies and data-informed models influence course design and faculty development practices

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $22.10 - $26.10 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
