The Haverhill YMCA is seeking a passionate and experienced Youth Services Director to lead dynamic programs that inspire children, teens, and families year-round.

As the Youth Services Director, you will provide strategic leadership for a wide range of youth development initiatives, including family engagement opportunities, teen programming, and seasonal camp operations. You'll play a vital role in creating safe, inclusive, and engaging experiences that foster confidence, character, healthy relationships, and a strong sense of belonging.

What You'll Do
Program Leadership & Development

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of year-round youth, teen, and family programs.
  • Design engaging, inclusive, and age-appropriate programming that reflects the needs of the communities we serve.
  • Monitor program quality, participation, and member feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all programs operate in accordance with YMCA policies, licensing requirements, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with branch leadership and internal departments to deliver an exceptional member experience.


Camp Planning & Seasonal Leadership

  • Lead all pre-season planning for summer camp operations, including program development, staffing, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and ongoing support to Camp Directors throughout the camp season.
  • Ensure camp programs consistently meet YMCA standards, licensing requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Help create memorable camp experiences that encourage learning, friendship, and personal growth.


Staff Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and develop full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and regular performance feedback to support employee success.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and inclusive team culture that reflects the YMCA's mission and values.
  • Encourage professional growth through training, development, and leadership opportunities.


Family & Community Engagement

  • Build meaningful relationships with youth, families, and community partners.
  • Create a welcoming environment where every participant feels valued, supported, and included.
  • Develop partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to expand program reach and impact.
  • Support marketing, outreach, and communication efforts to increase program awareness and participation.

Qualifications

We're looking for a passionate leader who is committed to creating positive experiences for youth, teens, and families. Successful candidates will possess the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required. An equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible leadership experience may be considered.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience leading youth, teen, camp, or recreation programs.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple programs, priorities, and seasonal operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with program planning, budgeting, enrollment management, and evaluation of program outcomes.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain certification within an established timeframe.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel between YMCA locations as needed.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to actively participate in youth, teen, family, and camp programs, including lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, and other physical movements necessary to ensure participant safety.
  • Ability to respond quickly, appropriately, and calmly in emergency or unexpected situations.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel between YMCA branches and program sites as needed.
