About the Job

Position Summary:
The ARIC Data Analyst will collaborate with the research team on analyses of data from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study (https://sites.cscc.unc.edu/aric/). ARIC is a
large-scale prospective epidemiologic cohort which is evaluating associations of mid-life risk factors to risk of cardiovascular disease and dementia. Primary roles include to manage the data, create statistical analysis plans, and to create both data table shells and formal data reports. This position will also collaborate on reports, conference papers, and publications.

Work Schedule: Hybrid, M-F, 7:30am - 4pm

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • 70%: Create, evaluate and implement statistical analysis plans, with an emphasis on rigorous epidemiologic methods intended to mitigate bias. Including creating data table shells and formal reports.
  • 10%: Serve as a liaison to trainees using the data, providing guidance and insights regarding data availability and 'best practices'.
  • 10%: Collaborate on reports, conference papers and publications. Including first-authoring papers as time warrants.
  • 5%: Prepare manuscripts for publication and work with journal editors/reviewers for publication.
  • 5%: Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the research team, and more broadly the Department of Neurology, Epidemiology and Community Health. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in epidemiology, biostatistics or affiliated field plus two years of experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years of experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with analytical software, in particular SAS.
  • Experience with literature review techniques.
  • Comfortable working independently, with experience working with multiple teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in epidemiology, biostatistics or affiliated field.
  • Coursework in statistics, data analysis, research methods.
  • Documented interest in the content areas of dementia, aging and/or cardiovascular disease.
  • Experience conducting data analysis, with multivariable regression models (e.g., Cox regression.)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work on multiple tasks concurrently.

Pay Range: $36.05/hr - $43.27/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
