Position Highlights The University of Arizona is seeking an Arborist II. Arborist team members perform outdoor tree maintenance duties on campus trees, palms and tall hedges. Small tree take downs are included. The Arborist II should be comfortable with the use of 80hp tree chippers, up to 65 ft boom trucks and all sizes of chainsaws. Also included in these duties is hanging and changing of street side banners. Tree crew members do not climb trees at the U of A. Workers in this position must be able to work at great heights and be able to use tools of the position for an extended period of time.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Basic bucket tree trimming from a 45 ft to 65 ft bucket truck.
  • Perform routine tree trimming and pruning to remove dead, diseased, or overgrown branches.
  • Assess tree health and structure to recommend appropriate care and treatment.
  • Safely use ladders or aerial lifts to access branches for trimming and maintenance.
  • Operate specialized tree care equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, and chippers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Ground level trimming of trees.
  • Tall hedge pruning.
  • Tree take downs - trees under 25 feet.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to clients on proper tree care and maintenance.
  • Identify and treat tree diseases, pests, and other environmental threats.
  • Ensure proper disposal of tree debris, including wood, leaves, and branches.
  • Hanging and changing banners on street posts and other pole, fixing flags on flag poles, knocking down wasp nests from windowsills, and retrieving stuck drones.
  • Follow local, state, and federal regulations regarding tree care and removal.
  • Maintain accurate records of tree work performed and client interactions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of common trees/plants in the Tucson area.
  • Fall protection knowledge.
  • Mechanical skills for operating machines with fast moving/heavy parts.
  • Basic knowledge of the proper tree trimming techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Excellent physical stamina and strength for performing manual labor.
  • Work is typically performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to
    the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL with air brake certification.
  • Certified Arborist.
  • Pest control spray license for Turf and Ornamental.
  • Fall Protection training certificate.
  • Previous experience working in a University or similar environment.
