Inova's Community Health Division is seeking a compassionate, culturally affirming Primary Care Physician to join the Inova Pride Clinic - the first dedicated LGBTQ+ primary care clinic in Northern Virginia. This full-time role is embedded within the Primary Care Service Line and offers a unique opportunity to serve a historically underserved community through both in-person and telemedicine care. Job Responsibilities Provide comprehensive primary care to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning patients across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on:
- Gender-affirming hormone therapy and transgender care.
- Sexual health, HIV prevention and management (including PrEP/PEP)
- Gynecologic care, including preventive and routine services
- Adolescent and young adult medicine
- Metabolic health and weight management
- Mental health co-management, including psychotropic medication management and support for patients with mood, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions
- Eating disorder awareness and coordinated care
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with behavioral health, social work, and specialty teams
Required Qualifications Education & Training
- MD or DO degree
Residency training in Family Medicine or combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Licensure & Certification - Active Virginia medical license, or eligibility to obtain an unrestricted Virginia medical license
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Medicine-Pediatrics, with commitment to complete board certification if not yet obtained Clinical Experience - Significant, demonstrated experience providing affirming, patient-centered care to LGBTQ+ individuals.
Comfort and competence with the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ primary care needs, including gender-affirming care Core Competencies - Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with a diverse patient population
- Experience working in ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse care environments
- Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to thrive in a multidisciplinary team setting
- Commitment to health equity, advocacy, and inclusive care practices
Preferred/Value-Added Qualifications: We recognize that physicians bring diverse and complementary skill sets. The following experience, while not required, would be highly valued:
- Psychopathology and psychiatric medication management
- Eating disorder identification and coordinated care
- Adolescent and young adult medicine
- Weight management and metabolic health
- Advocacy work within or on behalf of LGBTQ+ communities
- Interdisciplinary or integrated care model experience
- Teaching and mentoring medical students or residents (an opportunity available through this role)
