| Position Summary |
The
UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and The University of North Carolina School of Medicine seeks a Research Professor to lead our efforts of the Cancer Data Science. This part-time, fixed-term appointment will support the research cornerstone of Lineberger's future and will provide strategic guidance in planning, implementing, and evaluating the cancer center's new strategic plan, with a particular focus on data science integration across all mission areas. This faculty will provide guidance on training and career development programs in cancer data science as well as mentor junior faculty and trainees, as appropriate. It is expected that they will support interdisciplinary collaborations among clinicians, basic scientists, population scientists, and computational researchers |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., biomedical informatics, epidemiology, biostatistics, computer science, or related field)
Nationally recognized record of independent, externally funded research in cancer data science or related domains
Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following:
Electronic health record (
EHR) and real-world clinical data
Genomic or multi-omic data analysis
Image data science (radiology, pathology, or computational imaging)
Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership, program development, or advisory oversight
Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills and a record of high-impact publications |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience within an
NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center
Familiarity with
UNC Health data systems or comparable academic health systems
Demonstrated experience contributing to large-scale collaborative grants (e.g., P01, U01,
SPORE,
CCSG components)
Experience integrating data science into translational or population health research
Expertise in cloud computing, secure data environments, and large-scale data platforms |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
