Job Description

Director of Maintenance - North America - Roles, Responsibilities & Best Practices

Job Summary

The Director of Maintenance provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all asset maintenance, repair, and supports fleet management activities across North America. Coordinates with our international maintenance team to maintain a single program around the globe. This role is responsible for maximizing the availability, reliability, and safety of our large, diverse mobile equipment fleet. The Director manages regional maintenance plans, helps development and execute our yearly capex budget, and uses advance telematics in conjunction with our fleet management team to determine long term asset sustainability.

Reports to the Vice President of Global Maintenance

Strategic Fleet Management

* Define long-term asset strategies. The successful candidate will work very closely with our Fleet Management Team to optimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) and equipment replacement cycles. This will include updating and establishing new component benchmarks to assist with capital planning.

* Standardize maintenance protocols across all North American sites, maintenance shops, and field operations.

* Assist in Driving telematics integration using fleet data and predictive analytics to transition from reactive to initiative-taking maintenance.

* Develop actionable reporting to help site maintenance managers promptly address problems and proactively maintain the equipment fleet.

Operational Oversight

* Help Manage multi-million-dollar budgets spanning CAPEX, parts procurement, and external vendor contracts.

* Optimize shop utilization and field service technician efficiency to minimize equipment downtime/operational losses. This will include pushing implementation of our machine/operator rotation program.

* Support warranty reclamation and vendor compliance programs to capture maximum cost recovery.

Safety, Compliance & Sustainability

* Support Enforcement of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and Internal Safety and Environmental Initiatives across all maintenance facilities and field services.

* Lead Updating Maintenance SJP's and procedures. This will include reviewing our most repeated maintenance tasks and helping develop safe job procedures for them.

* Drive internal maintenance audit compliance by partnering with Regional Maintenance Planners to ensure sites complete audits and action items. Support maintenance improvement plans for low-performing sites.

Workforce Leadership

* Support leading and mentoring a decentralized team of regional maintenance planners, managers, shop foremen, and technicians.

* Design recruitment and training tracks to continuously upskill technicians and counter industry labor shortages.

Required Qualifications

* 10+ years of experience managing large-scale mobile equipment fleets and field technicians.

* 5+ years of senior leadership experience managing multiple maintenance facilities across a large geographic footprint.
