Summary

Founded in 1847 by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier University is the oldest Catholic Institution in Chicago. As a Catholic University and a Sisters of Mercy institution, SXU drives the mission of community, teaching, learning and research. Saint Xavier University seeks applicants for a full-time 9-month Non-Tenure Assistant Professorial Lecturer position within Exercise Science to begin in August 2026.

The Exercise Science Division is within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Exercise Science Division includes majors in exercise science (undergraduate and graduate), Sports Management, Physical Education, and a Strength and Conditioning Minor. The objective of the Exercise Science Division at Saint Xavier University is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical application necessary for today's entry-level exercise science careers. The Exercise Science program is part of the National Strength and Conditioning Associations Educational Recognized Program (ERP) in which students will establish evidence-based practices, scientific knowledge, and practical work experience to bridge the gap between science and application. Program faculty are expected to work collaboratively with each other, faculty outside of the program, and community partners..


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

o Teach in undergrad and graduate Exercise Science program.

o Serve as a mentor to students in the Exercise Science Division

o Participate in research and scholarship.

o Provide service to the University, community, and profession.

o Perform other duties as designated by the Dean and/or Director of Exercise Science.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities who are otherwise qualified to perform the essential functions.

1. Master's degree within the health field (instructor-level), Ph.D., preferred (Assistant Professor).

2. Focus on (but not limited to) the areas of biomechanics, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, research methods, and nutrition.

3. Teaching experience at the Higher Education level of 3 years or professional experience within the health and wellness field of 3 years.

4. Certification of ACSM or NSCA is preferred

5. Knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook

6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Physical Demands:

Nearly continuously: sitting, hearing, listening, talking, and interacting with students, faculty, staff, and other constituents across the University.
