The purpose of this position is to ensure the maintenance of City parks and City-owned buildings. This is accomplished by performing skilled work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, motors, and related equipment and in City-owned buildings. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems in parks, athletic fields, recreation centers, park buildings, aquatic facilities, and other Parks and Recreation facilities by inspecting electrical systems, identifying maintenance needs, troubleshooting issues, performing repairs, and ensuring reliable operation of electrical equipment.
- Maintains sports field lighting, park lighting, electrical panels, wiring, control systems, electrical outlets, breakers, transformers, generators, motors, and related electrical equipment by performing inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and replacements as necessary.
- Troubleshoots electrical outages, equipment malfunctions, and electrical system failures by diagnosing problems, testing circuits and components, identifying root causes, and implementing safe and effective corrective actions.
- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and infrastructure by inspecting systems, replacing worn or defective components, testing equipment performance, documenting findings, and completing work orders to maximize system reliability and minimize downtime.
- Reads and interprets electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and construction plans to ensure electrical installations, repairs, and modifications comply with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable local codes, and City safety policies by following established electrical safety procedures, utilizing proper personal protective equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Assists with electrical installations and temporary power requirements for special events, athletic tournaments, festivals, holiday displays, and recreational programs by installing, testing, maintaining, and removing electrical connections and equipment as needed.
- Maintains accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, inventory documentation, and purchase requests using applicable software and recordkeeping systems to support operational planning and budget management.
- Responds to emergency electrical service calls and after-hours outages by evaluating conditions, restoring electrical service, minimizing operational disruptions, and ensuring public and employee safety.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Education and experience that provide the necessary knowledge and skills may also be considered, but a typical way to qualify is by obtaining:
- High school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years of relevant experience.
Conditions of Employment
- Safe driving record and Valid Texas Driver's License

- Possess Journeyman Electrician License
Hours/Work Schedule
- This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits.
- Schedule may be modified if department needs arise.
- May be required to work overtime if needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This position requires the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the role and involves working in both indoor and outdoor environments. - Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying equipment, materials, and tools weighing up to 50-100 pounds on an occasional basis
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and testing devices with precision
- Adequate vision, hearing, and color perception to identify electrical components, troubleshoot systems, and safely perform electrical work
- Ability to respond to emergency situations and perform work in a safe and efficient manner while following established safety procedures and regulations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, circuits, motors, controls, lighting systems, and related equipment
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable local electrical codes, and OSHA safety regulations
- Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and repair techniques
- Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in parks, recreational facilities, buildings, and outdoor infrastructure
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Skill in the safe use of electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical equipment
- Ability to diagnose electrical problems and implement effective, timely solutions
- Ability to work safely around energized equipment and follow established lockout/tagout procedures
- Ability to prioritize work assignments, manage multiple projects, and respond effectively to emergency repairs
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and ensure system reliability
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and the public
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inventory documentation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a maintenance team
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to departmental policies and procedures
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a safe, efficient, and professional manner
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and the public
- Knowledge of safe work practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard recognition
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicles and equipment associated with electrical maintenance, including aerial lifts, ladders, and utility vehicles
- Basic computer skills for completing work orders, entering maintenance data, and communicating electronically
- Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications related to the position, as required by the employer.
