Director, Public Works - Oklahoma City, OK

A Director may lead and oversee multiple production teams within a specific practice in the firm. The Director is responsible for managing a team of talented professionals, taking a lead role establishing sales and growth of the team(s), and overseeing the successful execution of various project within their discipline. Their expertise and leadership will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality solutions to our clients while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Typically manages through subordinate managers and professional in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Collaborates with Practice Leader and other Directors on inter-practice workshare. Provides input on annual conference budget & training needs. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

What you will do:



  • Lead and manage multiple teams of engineers and/or other professional/technical staff within their discipline, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Lead and coordinate annual sales goal for managing team(s).
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the planning, design, implementation of projects within their discipline, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand project requirements and deliverables.
  • Lead efforts for Practice's & firm's regional growth.
  • Monitor project progress, address any issues or obstacles, and provide strategic solutions to ensure successful project execution.
  • Utilize a deep understanding of principles and best practices within the discipline, to guide project teams effectively.
  • Lead and manage high profile or extensive design projects.
  • Review and approve designs, calculations, and drawings to ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in technologies and methodologies within the discipline and apply them to enhance project outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their needs, address concerns, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to prepare proposals, presentations, and bids for potential projects.
  • Implements and uphold rigorous quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to relevant codes, regulations, and safety guidelines.


What you will need:



  • In-depth knowledge of principles, practices, and methodologies within their discipline.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams on large-scale projects is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Proficient in using various software and tolls for design, analysis, and project management.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering projects of varying sizes and complexities within their discipline.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams effectively.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage budgets.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a track record of successfully resolving complex challenges.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients, team members, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in their practice/discipline (Civil Engineering or similar).
  • 10+ years of proven experience in their discipline, with 3+ years in a team leadership role.
  • Professional Engineering license or a license within their discipline required.
  • Prolonger periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction sites.
