Job Summary

Provide intermediate-level mechanical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of campus facilities, mechanical systems and utilities, or systems and equipment associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit or laboratory. This position will interact on a consistent basis with facilities management and utilities personnel, or research management and faculty, as well as co-workers, vendors, suppliers, and contractors. This position will typically advise and counsel facilities or lab management. This position will supervise: NA.
Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Participate in the design, installation, and testing of mechanical systems and components.

Job Duty 2 -
Develop engineering project schedules.

Job Duty 3 -
Conduct analyses of mechanical system performance; prescribe corrective action where required.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop plans and specifications for mechanical systems and components.

Job Duty 5 -
Troubleshoot mechanical systems; may involve calibration and repair work.

Job Duty 6 -
Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams, and other documentation associated with mechanical components and systems.

Job Duty 7 -
Provide input to and administer project engineering budgets.

Job Duty 8 -
Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues.
Job Duty 9 -
Participate in project reviews to ensure conformance with quality standards and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Four to six years of job-related experience

Mechanical Engineering Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced mechanical engineering support for welding and fabrication projects.
  • Design, analyze, and improve manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Develop engineering solutions for research, prototype, and production projects.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety practices, and quality requirements.
Project Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership and work direction to engineers, machinists, and technical personnel.
  • Coordinate multiple fabrication and machining projects simultaneously.
  • Review engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and execution.
Customer & Research Support
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and research staff on engineering projects.
  • Translate customer concepts into manufacturable designs.
  • Provide engineering consultation throughout design and fabrication phases.

Proposed Salary

Pay Range: $70,000-$83,763/yr.

SKILLS
This job requires the application of mechanical engineering principles, processes, and practices; the application of regulations, codes, and safety practices associated with mechanical systems; the utilization of basic and advanced computer applications, including those specific to areas of responsibility; and communication.
