Department Information

Established in 1990, the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts is a pioneer of liberal arts education and research at the nexus of the technical and human sciences. Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational leadership for HR functions across multiple units, including the college, GTRI, and the Office of Faculty Affairs. Ensures the effective delivery of core HR services and programs, working with leadership to assess needs and shape localized policies and practices that are compliant and aligned with organizational goals. Serves as operational lead for core HR functions, driving operational excellence, supporting leadership, and providing functional supervision to subordinate HR leaders, administrative staff, and support. May report to the Executive Director of GTHR and/or the Office of Faculty Affairs to support collaboration or align reporting structures. Responsible for setting individual and team goals aligned with departmental objectives, determining the appropriate organizational structure to support these goals, evaluating employee and team performance, providing constructive feedback, and making informed recommendations regarding compensation and recognition.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Provide strategic HR counsel to senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and talent management initiatives; lead change management initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement on behalf of the unit.

Job Duty 2 -
Administer and review the unit's adherence to compensation practices, including pay and salary structure guidelines and recommendations.

Job Duty 3 -
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop, recommend, and implement the daily administration of HR services, which may include recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contract negotiation and administration, performance evaluation, and employee relations, in accordance with quality management principles and the overall objectives of the organization.

Job Duty 5 -
Using HR data, participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned areas and programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures. Provide leadership and oversee employee data collection, analysis, and reporting; supervise data entry to ensure integrity and accuracy; ensure effective and efficient administration of electronic application and database systems. Implement and continuously improve HR operation processes, and policies. Ensure data integrity and compliance in HR information systems and personnel records.

Maintain and expand knowledge of state, federal, and local legal requirements affecting human resource management. Stay updated on the best regulatory measures, practices, and new technologies in human resource management, employment law, and talent management regulations. Ensure compliance with all legal requirements and government reporting regulations, and act as the primary liaison with legal counsel and external government agencies on human resources matters.

Job Duty 7 -
Establish and maintain strong, cooperative, and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community partnerships. Serve as a liaison for Human Resources to other departments, divisions, and outside agencies including staff, faculty, students, vendors, contractors, outside educational institutions and businesses, community representatives, and governmental agencies.

Job Duty 8 -
Manage a team of HR or related staff, with responsibilities including managing workflow, setting departmental goals, hiring, training, performance evaluation, providing feedback, scheduling, and time/attendance approval. Lead onboarding processes and performance management, and annual evaluations. Promote professional development and a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer service. Assess and monitor the workload of assigned personnel, administrative and support systems. Identify opportunities for improvement; direct and implement changes.

Job Duty 9 -
Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies. Ensure timely reporting and audits for HR related compliance areas. Maintain and enforce internal controls and confidentiality standards for HR data and processes.

Job Duty 10 -
Develop, provide, and train on HR tools and resources, including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, benefits materials, and standardized reports. Collaboratively work with managers to monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommend appropriate service and staffing levels; allocate resources accordingly.
