Posting Type: Open Competitive Work Type: Full-Time Nature of Work: This is technical work in developing and maintaining a comprehensive safety program for the City to ensure and promote a culture of safety. Work involves assisting in the development of departmental safety regulations, investigating methods and equipment used on City projects to determine compliance with safety standards, conducting safety training in all areas of safety and first, processing and analyzing accident and injury reports, and making recommendations as to the means to avoid accidents or injuries in similar situations. The incumbent will help administer safety training programs for City employees in cooperation with various City departments and divisions. An employee in this classification works with considerable independence, receiving general supervision and guidance from a supervisor. Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. Two (2) years of college level course work in safety and health, public or business administration, personnel or human resources management, education, industrial engineering or a related field AND Three (3) years of experience in occupational safety and health work OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications: Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to worksites throughout the City during the course of the workday. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of application. Must possess a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) by the end of the probationary period. Must be a certified CPR, AED, and FA instructor. Must possess a 2nd grade hoisting and portables license by end of probationary period. Pay Range: $66,684.80 with step increases to $96,720.00 Annually Benefits: Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year: twelve days vacation; five days management; fifteen days sick; and fifteen holidays. Examination Information: The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of60% on the structured interview (100% weight). Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months.
