Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, or designee, the Senior Research Program Manager oversees the application, implementation, progress, and evaluation of complex multi-year, multi-site research projects. The Senior Research Program Manager coordinates and mobilizes staff, faculty, consultants and other resources at multi-University, project site, and funding agency levels to assure timely and effective implementation of research project work.

Working full-time in the Department of Infectious Diseases/HIV Clinic at UMass Memorial Hospital campus, responsible for the day-to-day oversight of an outpatient clinic treating at-risk populations. Position includes budgetary oversight for 6 budgets, as well as staff management and procurement. Liaison to local agencies, state Department of Public Health, and federal health agencies for funding and reporting.



Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Participate in the development of research project plans and programs in conjunction with senior principal investigators
  • Convene and provide overall direction to project teams, which may consist of data staff, research associates and coordinators, per diem staff, and faculty for the development of project work plans, study designs, literature reviews, analysis plans, and results
  • Prepares project budgets, and manages project related grant and contractual expenditures with the department administrator
  • Identify necessary resources to perform research project, including organizing and coordinating resources from UMass Chan Medical School and other campuses of the University system; monitor work progress, including data analysis and reports, and oversee its timely completion
  • Hire, advise, directly supervise and evaluate the performance of specified research project directors, coordinators, and per diem staff. Provide functional supervision of other specified project staff as needed
  • Write scientific papers describing the research project results in conjunction with the Principal Investigator
  • Coordinate formal communications and meetings between on-site Principal Investigator and the sub-award principal investigators, as well as working with senior departmental management regarding research project needs and concerns
  • May act in a project management capacity and be responsible for managing day-to-day logistics and operational needs of the projects, convening and providing overall to direction to project teams and identifying and addressing problems which may adversely affect performance of project work. Summarize findings of data analysis and incorporate pertinent information into project presentations
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Health Care Administration, Public Health, or a health policy related health care field
  • 7 years' experience in developing, implementing and evaluating research programs, including significant experience in project management, supervision of staff and fiscal responsibility, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of supervision and coordination of complex, federally funded, multi-site research projects in an academic setting
  • Communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, to interact with faculty, staff, and investigators and to produce reports suitable for an academic audience


Additional Information

ADDITIONAL MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Prepares program budgets, helps with grant applications, and manages program-related grant and contractual expenditures with the department administrator

* Reports regularly to state DPH and federal HHS contract managers on all aspects of funded projects; responsible for preparing for and successfully managing annual programmatic and fiscal site visits for funding agencies

* Responsible for timely and accurate reporting to state and federal funding agencies; requires ability to learn, access and report using state and federal portals

* Provide functional supervision of clinic staff to ensure clinic runs smoothly, efficiently, and serves the varied needs of patients while maintaining standards and metrics required by funding agencies

* Coordinate quality management projects, including a consumer advisory group and regular patient surveys
