Job Description
ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is currently seeking several Fitness Program Managers.

Department Overview
Campus Recreation and Wellness ( CRW) at East Carolina University engages the Pirate Community in various recreational and wellness experiences by providing exceptional facilities, programs, and services. CRW manages four flagship facilities, including two indoor and two outdoor locations. Indoor facilities include the Eakin Student Recreation Center, a state of the art 150,000 square foot facility located on ECU's main campus, and a 30,000-square-foot recreation and wellness center inside the 76,000-square-foot student center on ECU's Health Sciences Campus. The North Recreational Complex, a 129-acre sports complex that includes eight sports fields, a six-acre lake, disc golf course, boathouse, walking/jogging trails, outdoor fitness equipment, sandy beach area, beach volleyball courts, and an Odyssey challenge course and the 18-acre Blount Recreational Sports Complex round out the outdoor facilities.

Campus Recreation & Wellness, along with the Center for Counseling & Student Development, Student Health Services, Dean of Students Office, and Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities make up the Health & Well-Being Unit. The unit promises to create a comprehensive and integrated approach to student well-being by prioritizing comprehensive healthcare, a culture of well-being, and educating the campus community.
Job Description
Want to build leadership experience, work behind the scenes of a high-energy fitness program, and help shape the student experience at ECU? These roles are part operations manager, part problem solver, part hype team.
You'll help keep our Personal Training / Group Fitness programs running smoothly while gaining real-world experience in leadership, event operations, communication, and wellness programming.
Personal Training Program Manager
Help support the behind-the-scenes operations of our Personal Training program.
What You'll Be Doing:

  • Tracking client sessions and purchases in the Member Management System
  • Maintaining trainer schedules, certifications, and contact information
  • Assisting with onboarding new Personal Trainers
  • Coordinating trainer-client pairings
  • Supporting personal training sales tracking
  • Conducting walkthroughs of training spaces and equipment
  • Assisting with fitness testing operations and procedures
  • Supporting large-scale fitness and well-being events
  • Other duties as assigned

Group Fitness Program Manager
Help support the daily operations of our Group Fitness program and instructor team.
What You'll Be Doing:

  • Coordinating private class requests and scheduling details
  • Managing and tracking substitute coverage
  • Assisting with onboarding new Group Fitness Instructors
  • Maintaining instructor certifications and staff information
  • Creating and sharing instructor updates and pre-class announcements
  • Tracking class performance KPIs through the group fitness management platform
  • Helping coordinate the Group Fitness evaluation process
  • Creating procedures for large-scale events and experiences
  • Conducting regular studio walk throughs
  • Supporting fitness and well-being events
  • Other duties as assigned

We're looking for students who are dependable, motivated, and excited to help create an incredible experience for members and participants at ECU Campus Recreation & Wellness.
To Be Eligible, You Must:

  • Be a current ECU student in good academic standing
  • Be able to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team
  • Be available to work approximately 10-15 hours per week
  • Be comfortable using Microsoft Office365 and other digital tools


Certifications & Requirements:

  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Personal Training Program Manager applicants must hold a nationally accredited Personal Training certification, or be willing to obtain one after hire
  • Group Fitness Program Manager applicants must hold a nationally accredited Group Fitness certification, or be willing to obtain one after hire

Special Instructions to Applicant

  • Starting hourly rate: $12.00/hour
  • Personal Training Program Manager reports to the Fitness Coordinator
  • Group Fitness Program Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Fitness
