Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs the primary function of a Trauma Registrar to accurately compiles and maintain concurrent review of medical records and available databases related to the trauma patient, assists and coordinates data collection processes, exhibits proficiency in data management, demonstrates knowledge of age specific processes of care and assists with regulatory compliance. Performs chart studies while maintaining the databases containing trauma patients and participates in the quality improvement program to evaluate care for trauma patients. Uploads trauma data to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDSHS) and American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) as required. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to analysis data and data valididty of the trauma registry, as well as knowledgeable to identify trends in data and/or events, draw conclusions, and make recommendations to the Trauma Program Director, Trauma Program Manager, or Trauma Coordinator. Participates in report generation internally and externally as mandated by regulatory agencies. Assist with the preparation of materials and minutes of Trauma Service meetings. Participates in improvement activities for the overall improvement of the care of the trauma patient. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments as needed by the department or program.. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Computer literacy to include working knowledge of PC to include software application for Word processing, Excel, Power Point and database is essential. 2. Skill in mathematics and statistics. 3. Demonstrates competency and professionalism verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations. 4. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical, and trauma terminology. 5. Hours are flexible but must be able to work in a high pressure environment subject to multiple and changing priorities and demands. 6. Experience in Trauma Registry/EMS Registry, review of medical records, ICD-10 and E codes. 7. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer. EDUCATION / LICENSURE: 1. High School Diploma/GED; Associates degree preferred. 2. Have upon hire or successfully complete the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registry Course, or Trauma and Acute Care Foundation (TETAF) Data Management Course and the Assocation for the Advancment of Automitve Medicine (AAAM) Injury Severity Scale Course or other equivalent course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Trauma Program Director within twelve (12) months of hire and course eligibility requirements , class availability and department demands permit. 3. Level I and II facilities: In accordance with the 2022 ACS Trauma Standards 4.31- Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist, registrar will obtain the Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist certification (CAISS) upon meeting the minimum eligibility requirement of one year of experience using the Abbreviated Injury Scale offered by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM). Certification is recognized for a period of five years (and employee must maintain through employment once certification attained). 4. Level III and IV facilities: Have upon hire or successfully complete the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) Injury Severity Scale Course or other equivalent course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Trauma Program Coordinator within twelve (12) months of hire, or as class availability and department demands permit.
