Job Summary

The Security Technician II/Programmer supports commercial and data center security projects by installing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting access control, CCTV, intrusion, and low-voltage systems. This role requires strong hands-on field experience, working knowledge of IP networking, and the ability to interpret engineered drawings and project documentation. The technician is responsible for completing high-quality installations, supporting system configuration and integration, maintaining safe jobsite practices, and contributing to overall project execution. This position may also provide guidance to junior installers, assist with small crew coordination, and support project documentation to help keep work on schedule.

Job Responsibilities



  • Install security system devices including cameras, maglocks, card readers, strikes, panels, and related hardware.
  • Install, terminate, route, dress, label, and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling including 22/4, 20/4, CAT5e, and CAT6.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot access control systems, including door schedules, credentials, and access levels.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot IP and analog cameras, NVRs, and related video surveillance components.
  • Support CCTV client software setup on PC and mobile platforms, including camera management, recording schedules, and footage retrieval.
  • Build out and organize security equipment racks and associated infrastructure.
  • Install cable pathways including J-hooks, D-rings, and other support systems.
  • Read and follow blueprints, engineered drawings, and installation documentation.
  • Use standard office software, databases, and security system platforms to document work and support project reporting.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and communicate professionally with colleagues and management.
  • Maintain compliance with safety guidelines, PPE requirements, housekeeping standards, and OSHA-related practices.
  • Troubleshoot device-level, wiring-level, and system-level issues in the field.
  • Program, configure, test, and verify system hardware and software in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist with system integration, configuration, and scripting for access control or video surveillance platforms when applicable.
  • Support workflow by helping coordinate small crews, training junior installers, and completing project documentation.


Job Requirements



  • Install commercial security systems including card access, CCTV, CATV, and intrusion systems.
  • Program, configure, and test security system hardware and software.
  • Read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and project documentation.
  • Pull, route, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling using industry standards and color codes.
  • Troubleshoot security devices, wiring issues, and complete system performance concerns.
  • Apply safety protocols, quality standards, and jobsite compliance requirements in commercial environments.
  • Use hand tools, test equipment, and Microsoft Office for installation, reporting, and documentation.
  • Work with basic IP networking concepts including switches, routers, PoE devices, IP addressing, and port forwarding.
  • Work on ladders and scissor lifts, in confined spaces, and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Provide your own basic hand tools and required personal protective equipment for the role.


Education



  • High school diploma or GED required.


Work Experience



  • Minimum 3 years of commercial security installation experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of access control installation experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year of IP addressing and troubleshooting experience required.
  • Experience in large-scale commercial and hyperscale new construction environments required.
  • Experience with security manufacturer or product certifications preferred.
  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Scissor lift or boom lift certification preferred.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell preferred for candidates supporting programming functions.
  • Experience with SDKs, APIs, and physical security platform integrations preferred.
  • Experience with platforms such as Lenel, Genetec, Bosch, CCURE, Avigilon, Software House, AMAG, Brivo, and Openpath preferred.
  • Experience with CCTV systems such as Axis, Hanwha, Pelco, and related manufacturer tools preferred.
  • Experience with intrusion systems such as DSC, Client, and Bosch preferred.
  • Experience with door hardware and reader integration preferred.
  • Experience using cable testers, certifiers, toners, multimeters, and punch-down tools preferred.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)



  • Typical start time is 7:00 AM.
  • Expected work schedule is approximately 40 to 50 hours per week.
  • Work is performed in large-scale commercial project environments, which may include corporate, retail, healthcare, government, industrial, and other complex facilities.
  • This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term growth potential and continued industry training.
