THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is looking for an independent and highly motivated Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent to travel throughout an assigned area and build strong connections with local businesses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on auditing and investigating employer records to ensure compliance with the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Law. As an Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent, you will perform the following duties:

  • Audit Employer Records: Review payroll and financial documents to determine accurate wage reporting
  • Investigate Discrepancies: Examine possible misclassified workers or unreported wages
  • Reconstruct Payrolls: Rebuild incomplete or missing employer wage records when needed
  • Communicate Findings: Explain audit results, assessments, and appeal rights to employers
  • Support Compliance Actions: Initiate corrective steps when employers fail to follow UC Law requirements
  • Assist in Legal Processes: Provide information or testimony for hearings related to audit findings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule may vary based on operational needs. AWS (alternate work schedule) may be available.
  • Frequent travel throughout assigned territory in Pennsylvania is required. Travel expenses will be paid.
  • Telework: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must currently reside in or are willing to relocate to Armstrong, Cambria, Indiana, Jefferson, Somerset, Bedford, Blair, Centre, Clearfield, or Huntingdon County.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
