Summer M&A Associate

WittKieffer
United States, Illinois
May 01, 2026

We are mission-driven to advance wellbeing across the Quality of Life ecosystem through impactful leadership. Come join us!

THE ROLE

WittKieffer, the premier leadership advisory firm operating at the intersection of science, healthcare, and education, is evaluating the acquisition of a complementary lower-middle market professional services firm with a global footprint. This transaction would represent the largest in the firm's history and a pivotal step in advancing our long-term growth strategy.

We are seeking a high-caliber MBA candidate with hands-on investment banking or corporate finance experience to join the deal team as a Summer M&A Associate. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role working directly with executive leadership on financial modeling, due diligence, deal execution, and integration planning.

This role is not a low-intensity structured internship/academic exercise with formal training and a long ramp up period. This role is real M&A experience on a live, high-stakes transaction with direct exposure to executive leadership and deal decision making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Modeling and Analysis:

  • Build, refine, and pressure test integrated pro forma financial models and structuring scenarios.

  • Conduct detailed valuation analyses using multiple valuation frameworks and reference models (e.g., comparable company and transaction analyses).

  • Analyze historical financial statements, quality of earnings, and forecasts.

  • Develop sensitivity analyses across key assumptions (e.g., revenue growth, productivity, margins).

  • Perform accretion/dilution analyses.

  • Identify, analyze, and scope synergy opportunities from cost and revenue perspectives, together with actions required for achievement.

Diligence Support:

  • Organize, intake, and conduct initial analysis of diligence materials.

  • Identify data inconsistencies, gaps, and areas requiring further investigation.

  • Contribute to process management through diligence tracking and synthesize outputs for leadership review.

Deal Execution:

  • Prepare internal presentations and materials for executive and board-level discussions.

  • Coordinate with external buy-side advisors (banking, legal, tax) and sell-side advisors on data requests and deliverables.

Ad Hoc Strategic Analysis:

  • Benchmark market comparables and analyze industry trends.

  • Support scenario modeling for integration planning and post-close value creation.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting and current MBA student or recent MBA graduate at a top-tier program.

  • Prior experience in investment banking or corporate finance/development.

  • Proven ability to independently build and operate complex financial models.

  • Strong accounting knowledge; cross-border (including IFRS) experience preferred but not required.

Critical Competencies:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical rigor.

  • Collaborative and proactive communicator, along with strong sense of personal accountability.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, ambiguous environment with limited direction.
