Texas Oncology is looking for a Clinical Dietitian to join our team! This position will support the DFW West Region Office in Fort Worth, TX location. Hours are 8:00a-4:30p, Monday through Friday. This is a virtual position that works with oncology, radiation, immunotherapy, BMT.

What does the Clinical Dietitian do?

Oncology registered dietitians (RDs) provide nutritional consultation to cancer patients, families, and staff across the continuum of the cancer experience including primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence and palliative care. Advises and assists staff concerning patient nutritional status. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Implements nutrition screening system for cancer patients undergoing active treatment.
  • Provides individualized nutrition assessments, counseling and nutrition recommendations based on patients' specific therapies and nutrition needs.
  • Accurately and completely documents all clinical activity and assessments in patient charts in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Provides education to patients, families and other healthcare professionals concerning nutrition therapy.
  • Follows-up patient progress on a regular basis.
  • Consults with staff on specific nutrition problems and issues.
  • Provides ongoing nutrition classes for patients addressing nutrition topics and research pertinent to cancer patients.
  • Reviews and evaluates nutritional literature and material for staff use.
  • Participates in the orientation and ongoing training and in-service of staff on nutrition issues, research, programs, and community resources.
  • Collaborates with other health professionals as appropriate and develop nutrition education and resource materials as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team patient-care rounds.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and revision of patient care plans in conjunction with other clinical staff for all patients receiving nutritional support.
  • Attends education programs to maintain status as effective and knowledgeable resource regarding patients' nutrition needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Minimum three years professional experience as a dietician including hospital therapeutics, teaching and/or public health experience.
  • Prior experience in oncology or home care environment preferred.
  • Board Specialty certification in Oncology nutrition preferred.
  • Must possess current registered dietitian status through Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and current Texas state licensure as Registered Dietitian, as per state requirements.
